BlackBerry World 2012 phones MIA, software only

Well now, considering just how far Research In Motion is lagging behind rivals in the mobile space when it comes to smartphones, and obviously losing market share to such rivals as the iPhone and Android, one would have thought RIM would have taken every opportunity to deliver their new handsets to the mobile space, but apparently this isn’t the case when it comes to RIM’s big event, BlackBerry World 2012.

According to the guys over at Cnet, there’s not really much point in the BlackBerry faithful holding out any hope that Research In Motion will announce any new BlackBerry smartphones during BlackBerry World 2012 next week, as RIM will only be touting their BlackBerry 10 operating system.

Apparently a Research In Motion rep has told Cnet that Research In Motion will not be unveiling any BlackBerry 10 hardware during BlackBerry World 2012 in Orlando, Florida, next week.

Although apparently RIM does plan to launch a beta version of their BlackBerry 10 tool kit during the event, and developers that attend will receive a Developer’s Alpha device, although that particular device will not be a BlackBerry 10 handset and won’t be running BlackBerry 10 software.

During BlackBerry World 2012 there will also most likely be some apps showcased that are being developed for the BlackBerry 10 platform, with developers showing off their BlackBerry 10 based apps in demonstrations, but as for seeing an actual BlackBerry 10 smartphone, well it appears that simply isn’t going to happen…does this disappoint some of the BlackBerry faithful out there?
