Exciting Nokia 808 PureView May rollout begins

Smartphone cameras have come a long way in recent times that have seen sales of compact digital cameras falling, and earlier this year at the 2012 Mobile World Congress Nokia introduced the world to its Nokia 808 PureView and its impressive camera. We now have the exciting news that Nokia 808 PureView rollout will begin in May.

We were contacted by Nokia with the news that the handset will begin launching in select markets this month, and the 808 PureView is the first handset that will feature the award winning PureView technology, which is coupled with Carl Zeiss optics and Nokia developed imaging algorithms.

The first countries that the Nokia 808 PureView will launch in are India and Russia, and ever since the handset was first announced it has won a number of awards including one for the Best Imaging Innovation for 2012 from the Technical Image Press Association (TIPA).

Nokia’s Jo Harlow said that the PureView technology had raised the standard for the smartphone industry, and that the company were “going to carry on developing PureView for our future smartphones in ways that will again revolutionize the imaging experience”.

The handset features a massive 41 megapixel sensor paired with high performance Carl Zeiss optics that have been found on a number of Nokia handsets in recent years. Using standard resolutions between two and eight megapixels means you have the ability to zoom without losing clarity, and capture seven pixels of information that are condensed into one pixel for really sharp images.

At high resolution it means you have the ability to capture an image, then zoom, reframe, crop and resize afterwards to expose previously unseen levels of details. The camera has excellent low-light performance and the option of saving in compact file sizes before sharing via MMS, email, and via social networks.

The 808 also has full 1080p HD video capture and playback with 4x lossless zoom, and the world’s first use of Nokia Rich Recording, which allows for audio recording at CD like quality that previously only possible by using external microphones.

There is also exclusive Dolby Headphone technology that transforms stereo content into a personal surround experience, which can be achieved with any headphones and Dolby Digital Plus for 5.1 channel surround playback.
