Both Droid RAZR and MAXX Android 4.0 ICS may drop soon

Residents in the UK are about to finally get their hands on the Motorola Droid RAZR MAXX and its lovely extended battery, which adds more hours with hardly any extra thickness to the handset, and it seems the RAZR and RAZR MAXX Android 4.0 ICS update may drop soon.

The company were showcasing the Motorola RAZR MAXX at a UK press event, and T3.com are reporting that a VP from Motorola suggested both the RAZR and RAZR MAXX should be getting the new Android operating system at the end of June. Vice President of Marketing for Europe, Andrew Morely, said that the software will be coming next month and also explained why Motorola decided to use a larger battery on the RAZR MAXX.

According to Morley the company looked into what consumers want from a modern smartphone by doing a lot of research, which found that 75 percent of those asked put battery life as the biggest selling point of a smartphone. Morley said that a lot of consumers are now resigned to the fact that their handset won’t last to the end of the day without a recharge.

The RAZR MAXX is essentially the same handset than the original Droid RAZR except the larger battery, which now rocks a 3,300 mAh unit that promises users 17.6 hours of talk time. You are also promised almost a month of standby time, which will probably only be matched by smartphones that have lower specifications.

To recap the RAZR MAXX is powered by a 1.2GHz dual core processor powering a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED screen that is protected by Gorilla Glass, and a Kevlar back cover protects the rear of the device as well. The handset also features the exclusive Smart Actions application that allows the handset to automatically perform actions such as shutting down non-essential functions overnight.

It is available in around seven days from EXPANSYS for £429 and at Clove for £430.80 from today, while Amazon has it £419.99 with a shipping date of May 31st. Currently it is not known which carriers will be offering the RAZR MAXX but expect that to change soon. Will you be getting the Motorola Droid RAZR MAXX?
