Infibeam now selling Sony Xperia P with date

Since Sony broke away from its long time mobile partner Ericsson the company has continued to release or announce some worthy looking smartphones, and today we have news that online retailer Infibeam are now selling the Sony Xperia P with a release date.

The Xperia P was the last of the recently announced new Xperia handsets, and according to Tech 2 the handset is up for pre-order at Infibeam for Rs.25,500. The handset will be available from May 25th onwards across the country and the device is a slightly downgraded version of the Xperia S.

It will feature a 4-inch Reality Display that is being claimed to be the brightest screen so far by Sony, and the device measures 122 x 59.5 x 10.5mm weighing only 120g. The Xperia P is manufactured from a light but tough aluminium unibody, but the handset will coming running Android 2.3 Gingerbread with a promise of Ice Cream Sandwich in the future.

The handset is powered by a 1GHz dual core processor packing 1GB of RAM and 16GB of on board memory, but unfortunately there is no option of expanding this. The Xperia P comes with an eight megapixel camera instead of the twelve megapixel unit found on the Xperia S. It should still be able to capture good quality images though as there was a time when eight megapixel sensors were the norm on smartphones.

In this price range there isn’t anything newer available, and the Xperia P will compete with the older HTC Sensation amongst others, and it will be available before the likes of the HTC One S becomes available. There is also the Samsung Galaxy Nexus available for around the same price as well, and this already has the latest Android operating system straight out of the box.
