Untethered jailbreak on iOS 5.1.1 with new VulnDisco Mobile 1.7
Many Apple fans have been waiting patiently for the hard working jail breaking community to release the untethered iOS 5.1.1 jailbreak, but today we have news of the untethered jailbreak on iOS 5.1.1 with the new VulnDisco Mobile 1.7 tool.
According to an article on iDownloadBlog there is a new jailbreak tool available that is called VulnDisco Mobile 1.7, which is a commercial product that takes advantage of the existing RedSn0w 5.1.1 tethered jailbreak that installs a custom bundle for an untethered jailbreak.
The jailbreak is not free though as it’s not a standalone product, instead its part of an add-on to a larger product that has been created by a company going under the name of Immunity. Average users probably won’t have the finances to access this jailbreak, and it’s unclear how much it will cost in total.
A Russian vulnerability research company called Intevydis that has been going since 2008 are involved in the jailbreak, and has been selling exploit packages for a while now that has included exploits for the Flash player. There are a number of products on the company’s website that includes VulnDisco Mobile, which in itself is a product to test mobile related security, so the jailbreak is not a standalone tool.
You will also need the Immunity CANVAS software that is a penetration testing application that runs on Linux, Mac OS X, and Windows, and with this you have the full product that makes the jailbreak a possibility. So in total this will take it way outside of most people’s price range, but more importantly as MuscleNerd points out, multiple exploits are possibly being ruined by this.
While for many this tool won’t be of interest to those that like to jailbreak their devices, and it shouldn’t be much longer before Absinthe 2.0 will be available thanks to the hard work of Pod2g among others, and the best bit is its free and will work on almost all devices.
