RedEye Universal Remote Control Now Available for Android

The RedEye Android universal remote control system is available for Android devices. Originally, RedEyes only worked with iOS devices but the software works on Androids as well. Using the IR transmitter as a charging stand is still limited to iOS devices unless you have an adapter, but the universal remote control software now runs on Android smartphones and tablets like the Droid RAZR HD.

RedEye engineers seek to combine powerful hardware with a custom user interface to create a powerful universal remote/smartphone system that lets you control almost any device in your home. Unlike many competitors, who simplified their products and inadvertently reduced their functionality, RedEye was made to be powerful first and foremost so that gadget geeks can tinker it to work just right.

The RedEye universal remote has a 360° infrared blaster that doesn’t need to be aimed at your devices. It can remember hundreds of commands and it can simultaneously communicate with multiple devices. It comes with a 100-240V, 50-60Hz AC power adapter and has a 3.5mm (1/8 inch) infrared out port. RedEye’s small size means it won’t take up much space on your end table or coffee table The transmitter unit also doubles as a charging stand for iPhones so that your phone won’t run out of juice while you’re using it as a remote.

There might be other remotes out there, but whether or not they can deliver the same functionality as RedEye is another question. The ThinkFlood developers saw the potential the original iPhone had in replacing many handheld electronics so they started working on products that could use the touch screen interface. They produced RedEye, which was the first WiFi bridge universal remote controller on the market for iPhones and Androids. It has continued to be improved and developed since it came out, and now interfaces with both Androids, iPhones, and iPads. Requires one of the following: A Windows PC, a device with iOS 3.0 or later, or a smartphone or tablet with Android 1.6 or later.

The remote is available for sale on Amazon, eBay, Buy.com, and in many local retailers. Their site has a full list of brick and mortar retailers and it includes big names like Volutone and Wave Electronics.
