Sony Xperia Acro S & Go waterproof Android phones

We are constantly seeing new handsets being announced by the various smartphone manufacturers, but many of them have the same features that are already common with a lot of hardware, but today we have news of the Sony Xperia Acro S and Go waterproof Android phones.

The company has just revealed two new Android smartphones that according to SlashGear are both water resistant, as well as offering dust and bump protection. These are not the first smartphones to offer such features as the Motorola Defy and Defy Mini also offer such protection. The Sony Xperia go will hit the US as the Advance and is the smaller of the two handsets with a 3.5-inch 480 x 320 screen.

It also features a 1GHz dual core processor and a five megapixel rear camera, while the Xperia Acro S has a 4.3-inch 1280 x 720 display powered by a 1.5GHz dual core processor, and a twelve megapixel camera that is claimed to be ready to take images in less than a second.

The Xperia Go can even be used with wet fingers that many capacitive touchscreens can’t do, and it also meets the IP67 dust and water resistance standard, which is higher than some other so called rugged handsets, and strangely the handset will come running Android 2.3 Gingerbread at launch though, but Sony has promised an upgrade to Android ICS at some point.

There is also 8GB of on-board storage, 512MB of RAM, microSD port, and supports either dual-band or tri-band HSPA/UMTS depending on which country the handset is released in. It is expected to release during the third quarter of 2012 and available in either black or white. Meanwhile the Xperia Acro S is PlayStation Certified and features 1080p HD video capture, and will run Android ICS straight out of the box.

This features a 1910 mAh battery, and is IP55 and IP57 rated for dust and water resistance. This is also expected during the third quarter of 2102 in Black, Pink, and white colour options. Check out the videos below of the two handsets.
