Instapaper for Android says hello

Historically there have been a number of popular applications that have been available to users of the iPhone long before they reach the Android platform, which was recently seen with the Instagram and Temple Run applications, and today we can tell you that Instapaper for Android says hello.

For those of you that have used the iOS platform may have already come across the Instapaper application and as the Android Community are reporting the developer of the app has long stated that he was only interested in the iOS platform, but now the developer has changed tact and Instapaper has been made available for the Android platform.

The developer has got someone else to work on the Android version though, and Instapaper basically allows users to save web pages to their device for reading later. These web pages are saved off line and optimized to fit the readability of the smartphone or tablet PC that you are using. This allows you to take stories from the Internet while you are at home or in the office for reading when you may not have access to data or Wi-Fi networks.

One of the main features of the application is the ability to save most web content in a text only format losing the page layout. Users can adjust the font and text size, margins, and line spacing. Instapaper also has a dark mode and offers a brightness control for reading at night, and the app is designed for automatic dark mode switching to alter itself depending on the time of day.

It also offers a rotation lock and users can even share the downloaded content with other people. The team over at The Verge have given the application a quick hands on review that you can see below in a video, and preferred the version on iOS. Instapaper can be found on Google Play for £1.93/$2.99.

Will you download Instapaper or do you know of something better?
