Verizon Motorola Droid RAZR Android ICS release imminent

The ongoing saga regarding the latest version of the Android operating system reaching the actual hardware has been picking up pace in recent weeks, but that is not to say it hasn’t taken far too long for a number of powerful handsets to be updated, and today we have the welcome news that the Verizon Motorola Droid RAZR Android ICS 4.0 release is imminent.

According to an article over at the Android Community it seems that the Android Ice Cream Sandwich update is finally coming to the Droid RAZR and RAZR MAXX, which comes after months of waiting and missed dates, but it seems now that Motorola and Verizon are ready to start pushing out the update.

Previously the update was supposed to be arriving on June12th according to some so called reliable sources, but the date came and went with no new software, which left many users frustrated. Now Verizon either missed the date or are trying to keep users calm by updating them with some new news about the software.

Verizon has begun to send out text messages to all Droid RAZR and RAZR MAXX owners confirming that the update was set to drop soon. The message read that the handset will be updated soon and that the carrier will remove the Verizon Wireless Mobile IM application, as it is not supported by Android 4.0. The carrier advised users to download an alternative instant messaging application to use IM on their handset.

Multiple users have been receiving the text message on both the Motorola RAZR handsets today, and while Verizon didn’t reveal an actual date it must be about to drop at anytime, and hopefully in the next couple of days.

Did you receive the message from Verizon on your Motorola Droid RAZR or RAZR MAXX?

I did not receive a message stating the ICS update was coming, WTF?!?!?!, Verizon drops the ball again just like it is with the SGIII, releasing it 3 weeks AFTER the competition, smfh

It’s funny because the Verizon website has been claiming “upgradable to ICS” since I bought my phone a week ago. No text message here yet as of 6:3.6pm eastern

I didn’t get any message… But the message that I’ve heard was sent was to tell people that a software update was coming to the device soon and that Verizon I’M would not work with the new software… It advised people to download another I’M app that would be compatible once the update was administered… There is no timeline for when its coming, just that it is coming! Well thanks for really clarifying thing Verizon… we already new the when you released the list of phones that were receiving the update… What a waste!

Ill be glad when it hits because then everyone can complain how there is something wrong with it and complain how Verizon released it to early.

I received the text message late last night. I also received 2. I honestly don’t care about no text message. As long as other people have actually received it, then that makes it seem that in a few days, most likely weeks. , well be surfing on an ice cream sandwich.

Didn’t receive a msg?  Do you use VZN IM app?  If not, they would have no need to send you a msg to choose a new app.

no txt here!!!  Who is holding this up VXW or Motorola????    The issue i think, they want us to buy new phones. Keep profits up and investors happy.
