Best new 4.1 Jelly Bean feature picked

We’ve been giving you plenty of news on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean since it was announced at the Google I/O keynote earlier in the week. The updated Android operating system will start being pushed out to devices during July and today we thought it would be interesting to see some opinions on the best new addition from all the new features coming to Jelly Bean.

Just one of the new features that will arrive with 4.1 Jelly Bean is Project Butter, aimed at enhancing the overall performance with a ‘buttery smooth’ experience by reducing lag with the UI. Another addition will be improvements to Android Beam that will enable the user to share content via NFC or pair with an NFC-equipped Bluetooth device simply by tapping.

There are also improved Notifications and a better search experience with a Google Bar on the UI along with enhancements to Voice Search. Another new feature is Google Now, which will be able to work out exactly what the user might want to see next from checking previous search history, calendar details and more, which sounds pretty interesting.

Although the respondents are unable to use any of these new features yet, it hasn’t stopped Droid-Life conducting an informal poll amongst its readers asking their favorite of all the new features in Jelly Bean. The poll is still ongoing so check it out if you want to add your vote. We took a look at the votes so far though and as it stands the ‘Overall Performance – Project Butter’ stands way in front as most popular feature with 50% of the votes.

In second place is Google Now with 29% of the vote while Expandable Notifications comes in third with 12%. The other votes were 8% for the Enhanced Voice Search and 1% for Resizable Widgets while the ‘Other’ category has received no votes. Looks like Project Butter appeals to a lot of people then and we’d imagine that could still be the case when Jelly Bean releases and people have a chance to experience it for themselves. It will feature on the Google Nexus 7 tablet due out in July and the first Jelly Bean OTA updates are to be pushed out to the Galaxy Nexus, Nexus S and Motorola Xoom from mid-July.

If you want to see more about Project Butter then check out the Google video that we’ve embedded below this story that came to our attention from Android Central. It compares two devices, one using 4.1 Jelly Bean and one using 4.0 ICS and you’ll be able to see there’s a noticeable difference in performance. We’d like to hear what you have to say about this. From what you’ve seen and heard so far on Jelly Bean what will be the addition that’s most important to you? Let us know with your comments.

  1. As an Android user I am excited to read about this. Hopefully, I can give the the new OS a try soon on an Android beam like the Samsung Galaxy Beam. It’s rather difficult to tell how the features are just from a video but from what I see of it, it looks ace.
