Sony Xperia mini 4.0 ICS flavor update starts now

We know that many people are still eagerly awaiting the Android 4.1 Ice Cream Sandwich update for their devices and today we have some good news for those users of the Sony Xperia mini. The ICS update is now being rolled out to Xperia mini users and we have details of how you can find out if the upgrade is available to you right now.

Recently Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich updates have becomes available for several of the other Sony phones in the Xperia lineup although the Xperia S update currently seems to be problematic. That hasn’t stopped Sony issuing advice for the Xperia mini though. As with some of the other updates it’s a stepped rollout with some particular batches of phones able to receive ICS before others depending on country and carrier. What you need to find out whether ICS is now available to you, is the 8-digit Sales Item number.

To find your 8-digit number you need to remove the battery cover of your phone and take out the battery. Below this you should be able to see your SI number, which in the case of the Xperia mini should be on the top left of the label below the Sony Ericsson branding. GSM Arena, sourced from Sony, brought the news of the Xperia mini update and if you check out the Sony source link above you will see a list of 8-figure Sales Item numbers for the mini. If yours is listed (be warned it’s a long list) then you will be able to get your ICS update right now in PC Companion or Bridge for Mac.

If your Sales Item number does not yet appear on the list then Sony will continue to update the list as more updates become available so you can check back occasionally to see if yours has been added. Are you a Sony Xperia mini owner, glad to see ICS is now arriving for your phone? Maybe you’re one of the lucky first users to receive the update? Send us your comments to let us know what you think of ICS.
