Galaxy Tab line 4.0 ICS update hitting Samsung devices now

A few weeks ago we gave readers the heads up about when the Samsung Galaxy Tab line of tablets would be receiving the Android 4.0 ICS update. We told how ICS would be arriving for some devices in July and for others in August and we’re pleased now to be able to tell you that the ICS update is actually hitting some devices now.

Samsung has managed to fulfill that July/August ICS timeframe for the Galaxy Tab range and as these are about the most popular Android tablets, with the exception of the Kindle Fire, there should be a lot of very happy people about soon, receiving their tastes of Ice Cream Sandwich. Currently most of the Galaxy Tabs are running Android 3.0 Honeycomb so the upgrade to ICS will bring better performance and improved battery life along with many new features and additions.

News that ICS is now being seeded to the Samsung Galaxy Tab line came to us from Phone Arena, sourced from SamMobile, and the GT-P6800 Galaxy Tab 7.7 is the first to start receiving it with the rollout beginning yesterday. The following is a list of all the Galaxy Tabs that will shortly be receiving the update. They are the GT-P6210 Galaxy Tab Plus 7.0 WIFI, GT-P6200 Galaxy Tab Plus 7.0 WIFI + 3G, GT-P6810 Galaxy Tab 7.7 WIFI, GT-P6800 Galaxy Tab 7.7 WIFI + 3G, GT-P7310 Galaxy Tab 8.9 WIFI, GT-P7300 Galaxy Tab 8.9 WIFI + 3G, GT-P7510 Galaxy Tab 10.1 WIFI and finally the GT-P7500 Galaxy Tab 10.1 WIFI + 3G.

The ICS update has just begun arriving then and Phone Arena points out that some lucky people over in Australia are among the first to find they are receiving it. However it is now rolling out globally so you may want to keep an eye on the System Updates section under Settings on your tablet or on Samsung KIES.

We’re really interested in keeping track of which devices are now receiving the ICS update and in which locations it’s arriving first? If you receive the ICS update for your Galaxy Tab device let us know which particular tablet you have and your location so our readers can glean some idea of when it hits their region. We’d appreciate your comments on this.

Nothing in hong kong or canada. Samsung is doing a horrible job updating an army of users with latest sw. This is going to cost them deally! Next 7 inch tab i buy will be google branded or motorolla! Bye bye sammy! You didnt care about your aftersales support so we will not care about your future products

Nothing in Hong Kong yet. I bought samsung tab at xmas thinking the upgrade was iminent – what a fool! Anyone who thinks the tab is even close to the ipad without ics is deluded and I’m getting very very angry at how samsung have made complete fools of everyone

  3. Peuceto says:

I just spoke to Samsung support and they said that there would NO further updates to my SGT 10.1 which is running 3.2. I was gutted.

Just connected my P6800 7.7 3G & wifi & there was a firmware upgrade waiting, it’s just updated 2 ICS, I’m in the UK running on GiffGaff But got the device from Hong Kong.

I am also eagerly awaiting the update here in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. It appears Samsung is more keen to push sales of their new devices and leave its existing customers in a lurch when it comes to update. I have declared that I am not buying SAMSUNG period.

    Nothing in France yet..
But that’s Samsung: they’re the worst for updating their devices! Go to HTC if you want to get regular updates.

A week later and still no 8.9 update in uk. Guessing august then but what year ?. Too many broken promises and missed update dates. No more samsungs for me. How do they think they can treat existing customers this way.

    1. Vman says:

I agree just like apple, only way to get an update is to buy a new device I would never recommend a Samsung to anybody

Still nothing for UK 7.7 wifi 3g

    2. Tkhengong says:

Totally agree with you Harvey. SAMSUNG is not keen to support its current users! What angered me is you can buy new Galaxy Tab 10.1 running ICS here in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia but for us early adopters, its wait, wait, wait…..and wait. No more SAMSUNG for me, period! BTW, I am now using HTC One X instead of S3.

A lot of people complaining on here. The official line is ‘”July and August” so wait until September please before we all start throwing toys out of our prams. I’m a DHD owner and the latest news on that is dissapointing, but not enough to run away from a brand. Time to get real?!

Nothing on 10.1 in israel yet , Disappointment us samsung! I wrote a message for SAMSUNG on the facebook n they didn’t give me an answer..
On the other android devices they got the jelly bean “android 4.1” , and we didn’t get the ics..
    .
    .

    . You promised samsung!
    Don’t Disappointment us.

  9. FlyingScot says:

No update for the original Galaxy tab 7 which cost almost £500. This was the first Samsung product I ever bought and I will never again buy another in view of this lack of customer support. Guess I will now move to Apple!

  10. Gilbert Gurunyan says:

No update for ICS yet (Canada, Quebec) I was thinking of rooting my tab for better performance, but I might as well just wait until September for the official update 🙁
If i DO root my tab, can i still update it when it comes out though?

      1. alex says:

sorry rooting your tablet does not affect your stock rom….but there is a chance you will lose your root with upgrade. you need to reinstall stock IF you install a cyanogenmod or something like that

  11. Scott says:

20 August 2012 and still no OTA or kies ics update for the P7510 tab in Brisbane Australia. Still waiting and the time frame is almost over. August is closing fast.

    1. Aavatar says:

I don’t know why, when I checked from the sofware update, it says no update but according to Sam Mobile the Malaysian Firmware for GT-P6200 already out…..
