Amazon selling Nokia 808 PureView unlocked in white

The Nokia 808 PureView smartphone has met much acclaim since it was first announced, mainly because of the groundbreaking 41-megapixel camera. Initially it was thought that the 808 PureView would not release in the U.S. and so many were pleased to hear that Nokia had a change of mind. Today we can tell you that the PureView is now on sales stateside through Amazon and is in stock at $699.99 unlocked and in white.

We told readers a few weeks ago that the 808 PureView would be available on Amazon where pre-orders were underway but the good news is that it is now being shipped. Although the camera capabilities of the 808 PureView have been roundly praised, even beating off a standalone camera in tests, some of its other specs and features are more run of the mill. Nevertheless that doesn’t seem to have diminished demand for this phone and the unlocked version from Amazon is suitable of being used either with an AT&T or T-Mobile SIM card.

The Amazon SIM-free Nokia 808 PureView is only available in the white color option but to be frank this is an excellent choice anyway so this could appeal to many, despite the fact that $700 is a lot to pay out in one go for a smartphone. At least those in the U.S. who want this phone will no longer have to import one from elsewhere. The 808 PureView features a 1.3GHz ARM 11 processor, 4-inch nHD display with resolution of 640 x 360 featuring Corning Gorilla Glass, 512MB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage, expandable via micsoSD.

The 808 PureView runs on the Nokia Belle operating system and we’ll give you a bit more info on those camera capabilities. It has a 41-megapixel rear sensor with Carl Zeiss lens and PureView Imaging technology, full 1080p HD video capture, Xenon flash and separate LED for video recording. The 3x lossless zoom feature enables the user to capture and image and zoom in up to three times without any loss of detail. There’s also a VGA secondary camera.

Other specs and features include HDMI and DLNA output, NFC support, Wi-Fi, Stereo FM radio, Email, MMS and SMS messaging, pre-loaded Nokia Maps and Dolby Headphone technology. It weighs in at 5.6-ounces and dimensions are 4.8-inches x 2.4-inches x 0.5-inches. The 1400mAh battery should keep it going for around 6.5 hours of talk time and around 540 hours of standby time.

If you’re won over by the Nokia 808 PureView in white then you can see more or order it at this Amazon product page. We’d like to hear your thoughts on the 808 PureView. Are you going to order the unlocked version from Amazon for use in the US? Let us know with your comments.
