New Apple iPhone laptop refresh gets you thinking

No it’s not a new take on the upcoming iPhone, or even a new kind of laptop out of the Apple camp, but is actually a laptop robot that is controlled via the iOS smartphone, a hack by Avadhut Deshmukh, and was captured on video, which of course we have for your readers viewing entertainment below.

The video is called iPhone controlled Internet PC robot using arduino, and comes our way courtesy of the guys over at PCWorld, and shows a robot being controlled via an iPhone that sends commands to the laptop, which in turn controls the direction of the robot the laptop sits on.

The laptop in question is made by Acer, and as it is Internet connected one could possibly control this iPhone robot just about anywhere you’d like, along with being able to connect it to peripherals or software you can run on your PC, which apparently Deshmukh say means the possibilities are endless, and that the hack follows such things as human faces, certain colours, avoid walls, be driven by a Wii remote, and detect flames.

Navigating round the room appears to be a breeze as the robot feeds video from the laptop web cam to the iPhone screen so you can see where its going.

So there you go, a laptop robot being controlled by an iOS smartphone, personally I can’t really see the point of an iPhone controlled laptop robot, especially when let’s face it most people are moving away from laptops and gettig their fix with a tablet as they are more portable.

But I guess there are those that have too much time on their hands and love to tinker with this kind of thing, so I’ll leave it right there and let you head on down to hit that play button to check out the footage, and feel free to share your opinions of this to our comments area below, a good idea or not so good, what are your thoughts?
