New Sony S tablet, Xperia GX and J aka ST26i

Since Sony split from former partner Ericsson the company has been busy developing or releasing a whole host of new hardware, and today we have news of a new Sony S tablet, Xperia GX and J aka ST26i.

As Xperia blog is reporting the release date for the Sony Xperia GX that is due to reach consumers in Japan is being kept secret by carrier NTT DoCoMo, and the company has only confirmed that it will be arriving sometime this month. The handset features a 4.6-inch display with 720 x 1280 resolutions, 13 megapixel camera, and a dual core MSM8960 processor clocked at 1.5GHz.

Now someone has spotted a release date via a third party shop that pinned the handset for July 19th. This could easily be a mistake by the shop but should mean Japanese users will not have too much longer to wait, but news of the international version of the handset is still under wraps.

Meanwhile it is also being reported by the Xperia blog that the company is working on a new tablet device, as some documents have recently passed through the Federal Communications Commission in the US. Unfortunately very little information was given away in the documents but it does show it is for a tablet that will carry the model number of SGPT1211.

There is a good chance that the device could be for the successor to the Sony Tablet S, and the company could be working on a Windows 8 device. While on the Indonesian Postel regulatory site there are more marketing names for future Xperia smartphones. As Xperia blog are reporting the site has been completely accurate so far and is tipping the ST26i handset to be called the Xperia J when it is released.

The handset is thought to be another entry level offering that uses a 4-inch 480 x 854 display that is powered by a 1GHz single core processor, but will be launched with Android 4.0.4. Do you feel that Sony is releasing too many new handsets?
