A couple of weeks ago Google announced plans to shake up the tablet PC market with the launch of the upcoming Nexus 7, which is set to offer consumers a powerful device but at a more affordable price. Today we can tell you that the Nexus 7 has been updated to Android 4.1.1. Jelly Bean and the release of the device may be sooner.

According to the Android Community the Nexus 7 tablet has just been treated to its first over the air software update, and brings it to Jelly Bean 4.1.1. The update was a small one but brings the device to the same version of the Android operating system that was recently pushed to AOSP.

The update was only 12 MB in size and it seems the device will arrive with this latest update straight out of the box. Meanwhile the site is suggesting that the Nexus 7 could be in consumer’s hands sooner than expected. Previously it was thought the device would be available on the 19th of this month, but now one retail store is suggesting that it could be available by tomorrow.

Last week retailer Staples suggested the device would start shipping between the 12th and 17th of July, but now the Office Depot says the Nexus 7 will be in its stores from Thursday July 12th. The retailer is accepting pre-orders and is claiming that its stores nationwide will receive deliveries by the 12th. So store availability could come on the same day or just after, but you would have thought that Google would ship units to people that had pre-ordered the device before it started selling it in brick and mortar stores.

While these suggestions of availability may not completely accurate, one thing is for sure the device is only a matter of days away from flying off the shelves. Are you looking to get the Nexus 7?
