Flagship Sony Xperia Mint LT30p with iconic design & 13-megapixels

We are always excited to bring you news on upcoming smartphones especially when something is described as a ‘flagship’ device as that usually signifies something very impressive on the way. Today we have news of a phone coming from Sony, dubbed the Sony Xperia LT30p Mint. It’s said to have the iconic Xperia design as well as a 13-megapixel camera, so far, so good.

A few weeks ago we told some early details of some new Xperia handsets on the way and at that time heard of one codenamed Mint, said to be a flagship device and that has now been reiterated with a further specs leak. From what we can see the Sony Xperia Mint will indeed be a flagship device and we have plenty of details to pass on although as usual we’ll stress that this is not yet confirmed.

The Xperia LT30p Mint is set to have a Snapdragon S4 processor although it’s not yet known if this will be dual or quad-core. It will also have a 4.6-inch HD display with resolution of 720 x 1280, 1GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage, expandable via microSD according to Phone Arena sourced from IT168 (translated). Camera-wise it will have a dedicated camera shutter key and a 13-megapixel rear camera with Exmor R sensor and 1080p video capture. Along with these specs some photos taken using the Xperia Mint have also surfaced viewable at the Phone Arena link above.

The Xperia Mint will also have NFC support and capacitive on screen buttons and it will launch on Android 4.0 ICS with a planned update to 4.1 Jelly Bean at some point. The styling is very much in the same mold as the iconic arc design. All physical buttons are at the bottom right of the handset and although it’s made from plastic it will have a rubberized coating. One snag though is that the Mint’s battery will be non-removable.

We’d like to hear your thoughts on the Sony Xperia Mint, which is scheduled for the second half of this year and we previously heard a rumored date for release in September. However, this is not yet official. What do you think of the Xperia Mint? Does the 13-megapixel camera appeal to you? Let us know with your comments.

  1. I’d love a 13mpx camera but I’m just so fed up with every phone being enormousness, or small but with low specs. If it were smaller I’d be interested but if has a 4.6 inch screen I guess it’s going to be another giant.

Echo that! This could be a great phone with key advantages over the Xperia S including expandable memory and (potentially) improved camera. But why oh why do manufacturers insist on reserving top-line specs for their largest “pocket-busting” phones? I’m not an Apple fanboy but it’s clear that a really well specced phone with a more modest screen can still have mass appeal.
