New iPhone 5 connector leaves existing accessories worthless

I’m sure that all the iOS faithful out there are patiently waiting for the iPhone 5 to be delivered by Apple later in the year, and over the last few months there has been word that along with the new iOS smartphone Apple would be delivering a new iPhone 5 connector, so will the new iPhone connector cause you problems?

Well firstly it would appear that Apple is delivering a new iPhone dock connector for the iPhone 5 as this has apparently been confirmed by the USPTO according to an article over on Itwire, and it has been said that with the new iPhone connector all your existing accessories are worthless.

However, one does have to remember that to actually make your existing iPhone accessories worthless, one does have to update to the new iPhone 5, but if you decide not to, then your existing accessories will still continue to work with your existing iOS device.

Of course the problem comes when you do update to the iPhone 5, which no doubt many of the loyal iOS following will eagerly do as soon as they can. This is of course when existing iPhone accessories will become worthless to your iPhone 5.

Besides if you do pick up the new iPhone, no doubt someone in the mobile space will come up with a 19-pin to 30-pin adaptor at some point, so you can continue using your existing accessories, so really it shouldn’t be that much of an issue for long.

Apparently the new iPhone 5 connector according to the Apple patent is “A power adapter for a peripheral device such as portable electronics device is disclosed. The power adapter includes a housing that contains electrical components associated with the power adapter. The power adapter also includes a data port provided at a surface of the housing. The data port is configured to provide external power to the peripheral device.

“It would be desirable to remove the total number of connections made to a peripheral device so as to reduce the number of connectors and cables needed to operate the peripheral device. By reducing the number of connectors and cables, the peripheral size and the cost of the product may be decreased as well as the ease of use of the peripheral device may be improved”.

Apple’s dock connector has basically gone unchanged for years, and one doesn’t really expect Apple to continue supplying the old dock connector for ever without making a change did they?

Thus it would appear that Apple will be delivering a new iPhone 5 connector at some point in the game, which also shouldn’t any problems for those that might not pick up the new iOS smartphone as they old accessories will continue to work anyway.
