Verizon Galaxy Nexus may see ICS update before Jelly Bean

Since Google first released the Android Ice Cream Sandwich operating system back in October of last year, the updating of various hardware on the platform is still ongoing in what has proven to be a long drawn out process. This time with the latest version you would have thought that things would have improved, but it is beginning to look unlikely as the Verizon Galaxy Nexus may see another Android ICS update before Jelly Bean.

We recently told you that the older Nexus S device had begun receiving Android Jelly Bean via an over the air update, but as GottaBe Mobile are reporting it was thought that the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update could still be a long way off for the Verizon Galaxy Nexus, and new information seems to confirm this.

It seems that an Ice Cream Sandwich update is about to hit the Galaxy Nexus at some point in the future, unless the carrier backtracks and decides to cancel it. The IMM76Q ICS update has emerged again and hints that Verizon is thinking of pushing out another ICS update before it updates the handset to Android Jelly Bean.

Going on previous history it could be weeks or even months before Verizon owners of the Galaxy Nexus see the ICS update reach the device, which in turn means an even longer wait for Android 4.1 Jelly Bean to reach it.

The Sprint version of the handset has not seen such an update leak out, so it could mean that the device is almost ready to receive Jelly Bean. It does seem that the wait for the update on certain carriers may be awhile, as Vodafone recently stated that that it was still waiting for the update from Google to start testing it.

This could also mean that Verizon are still waiting for the software as well, and the carrier has a history for taking a long time to update its hardware on the platform. While Google originally promised that the device would be part of the first batch of hardware updated, there is a chance this may not happen and it was recently suggested that Samsung was busy working on the Galaxy S3 update.

Are you frustrated at the time it takes Android updates to be pushed out?

I got tired of waiting so I unlocked, rooted, and flashed Pete’s Bugless Beast Jelly Bean ROM and its been smooth sailing since. Jelly Bean has a LOT of major improvements over ICS that make moving to Jelly Bean well worth it. My VZW GNEX is faster, smoother, and snappier.

Yeah, forget verizon. I’ve had this rooted for a while, and I’ve been enjoying Jelly bean since the day after it was announced.
            Loving it.

  1. THE VERIZON GALAXY NEXUS MAY NOT EVEN GET JELLY BEAN PERIOD OFFICOALLY JUST BECAUSE GOOGLE SAID IT WOULD DONT MEAN VERIZON WILL PLAY BALL. JUST A THOUGHT IT COULD BE THAT WAY VERIZON CAN CARE LESS ABOUT THIS PHONE AND NOT ENOUGH PEOPLE WILL BE MAD OR CARE FOR THEM TO FIX IT. I DONT KNOW HOW TO ROOT BUT I GUESS I BETTER LEARN.

I have the Verizon Galaxy Nexus and I already have JELLY BEAN.. I also have FREE TETHERING..

All you have to do is root your phone and download JELLY BEAN it’s EASY.

LOL..   I WIN.   I don’t need to depend on Verizon to have the latest OS.

U think vzw would push the updates faster to avoid having so many rooted devices on their network. Not every rom is safe some steal data like your market CC info.

It sucks! I just bought this phone with the understanding that the update was going to be in mid July. Here we are almost August and nothing. Verizon, you will lose customers this way!

  5. Got a nexus specifically because I wanted updates directly from Google. I REALLY wish I wasn’t stuck on Verizon. I’m not real comfortable with the idea of rooting my phone, but it’s looking more and more like that’s the way to go.
