Xiaomi Phone 2 with Jelly Bean works with AT&T

A little while back we reported that a successor to the Xiaomi Phone would at some point be coming out to play in China, and now that successor, the Xiaomi Phone 2 has been officially announced in Beijing, and the Android handset has a scheduled release date for sometime in October, and apart from the appearance of the handset most of the rumoured specifications seem to have been spot on.

A report over on Engadget gives us all the details on the Xiaomi Phone 2, which include a 4.3-inch IPS 720p touch screen along with an 8 megapixel BSI rear facing camera, a 2 megapixel front facing snapper, 2GB RAM, 16GB memory, a Snapdragon S4 Pro APQ8064 quad core processor, and a 2000mAh battery, although if you don’t mind adding another couple of millimetres to the smartphone thickness there is a 3000mAh battery available for the device.

Originally it wasn’t clear whether the Xiaomi Phone 2 would arrive packing Jelly Bean or Android Ice Cream Sandwich; however that has now been cleared up, as the handset will indeed come out to play sporting the Android Jelly Bean operating system right out of the box, along with a few new features such as a Chinese voice assistant that is said to have 85% comprehension accuracy, 5GB of cloud storage, phone finder, interactive themes and enhanced security.

When the Xiaomi Phone 2 releases in October it will command a price tag of ¥1999, which is roughly $310, although both China Telecom and China Unicom will offer the Android handset as a subsidised device. Furthermore, the Xiaomi Phone 2 also supports WCDMA 800/1900/2100 MHz, which means if you fancy importing the handset to the US, it will work on AT&T.

So there you have it, the low down on the new Xiaomi Phone 2 for China, anyone interested in snapping up this new Jelly Bean handset comes October?

I would love to get my hands on one!

Do you know anywhere I could get one sent to Australia?

I’ve seen a couple of sites asking $499+ for them
