Samsung Galaxy Note 2 releases in October but US waits longer

The wait is finally over after weeks of speculation and leaks Samsung have now officially announced its latest flagship smartphone in the form of the Galaxy Note 2. The handset is believed to be launching in certain regions in October but it seems the US will have a slightly longer wait for the Galaxy Note 2.

Earlier today before the event had even kicked off the specs and images for the device had already been leaked, and these have now been confirmed by the company. During the live stream of the event the Samsung CEO took the opportunity to have a dig at rival Apple by stating that the company would “continue to provide the best product in the industry, regardless of any hindrance”.

The device will feature a 5.5-inch HD Super AMOLED display at 1280 x 720 resolutions, and powered by a 1.6GHz quad core Exynos 4 processor. As expected the camera on the back has an eight megapixel sensor while around the front a 1.9 megapixel unit can be found. The operating system will be Android 4.1 Jelly Bean straight from the box, while connectivity comes in the form of Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, USB 2.0, and NFC.

Network wise there is support for 4G LTE and HSPA+ depending on the region and the exact dimensions for the handset come in at 80.5 x 151.1 x 9.4 mm, while weighing only 180grams. During the showcase it was confirmed that the Galaxy Note 2 would come with a 3,100 mAh battery, but the company didn’t reveal any figures for battery life except that we will be impressed.

There is the option of 16, 32, and 64GB storage options that can be expanded by a further 64GB thanks to the micro SD card slot. The much improved S-Pen was highlighted during the presentation with the new Air View ability, which allows users to hover over items to preview the content without actually opening them.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 will be released in the UK in October along with other regions, but the company only said that a US version will be available later in the year. Do you like what you have seen of the Galaxy Note 2?

If Verizon doesn’t pick up this phone and it’s available by November 2012, when my contract with Verizon runs out, it’s good bye Verizon and hello AT&T.
