New Barnes and Noble UK partners to sell Nook

In the last few years eReaders have become big business with the Amazon Kindle leading the way as rival companies continue to bring out their own offerings. In the US consumers have had the option of choosing the various devices from Barnes and Noble and the company is set to launch its products in the UK, and has announced its partners to sell the Nook eReaders.

As The Wall Street Journal is reporting the company has selected another three British retailers to sell the Nook eReader from October. Earlier this week the company revealed that department store John Lewis would be the first retailer from outside the US to sell the devices. Now Barnes & Noble has announced that it is set to partner with the Home Retail Group, who are the owners of Argos, and academic bookseller Blackwell’s along with independent bookstore Foyles.

The company didn’t reveal the commercial terms of the partnerships, and details about availability and pricing will be announced later in the fall. Only last week the US company revealed that it had chosen the UK for the international debut of the Nook from October, but at the time didn’t announce the names of its retail partners in the country.

Barnes & Noble has revealed that it will be selling the Nook Simple Touch and the Nook Simple Touch with GlowLight in the UK, which are both E Ink devices that offer content in black-and-white. The device has become increasingly important for the company as it faces stiff competition from rivals such as Amazon and Kobo, which is a digital book seller that is owned by Rakuten that are based in Japan.

In recent times traditional booksellers have seen declining sales as more consumers make the switch to digital versions of titles. Since Barnes & Noble introduced its range of Nook eReaders it has gained an estimated 27% share of the market in the US, which is still dominated by Amazon.
