HTC Incredible S Android Jelly Bean AOKP Custom ROM

If you happen to own the HTC Incredible S, and would like a touch of Android Jelly Bean on your smartphone, and don’t mind tinkering with your device, then you might like to know that the AOKP custom ROM is now available for the HTC Incredible S, which follows after another custom ROM recently released called Codename Android.

Apparently the AOKP ROM is similar to the Codename Android ROM in as much as the AOKP ROM delivers a fast stock Android Jelly Bean experience along with numerous customisation features enabling the user to configure interface and under the hood settings, and of course gain all the fabulous features of Jelly Bean.

An article over on The Android Soul has delivered a how to install AOKP ROM on the HTC Incredible S, but one should note that this ROM is not an official HTC ROM, and the ROM is still under development and as such will have some bugs and issues.

The know issues with AOKP thus far are with WiFi hotspot, WiFi is buggy for some, radio signal strength is lower and slower in general, the gallery is buggy, YouTube/Video reboots the handset, MMS doesn’t work for some carriers, colour for notifications is orange and not green, camera is buggy, and front camera forces close, call volume is quite low or non-existent, and LED on charging only.

So with that said and if you don’t mind all that stuff, here’s how to install the Android Jelly Bean AOKP ROM on your device, and is only for installing the ROM on the HTC Incredible S handset…

Firstly this procedure will wipe all settings, data and apps so make sure you back up everything beforehand, then make sure your phone is S-Off and has ClockworkMod recovery installed, then download the latest version of the ROM from XDA-Developers.

Then download Google Apps Package from here, then copy the ROM and Gapps zip files to the SD card. Next turn off the device and then boot into ClockworkMod recovery by holding Volume Down and the Power button until the handset boots to the bootloader/HBOOT mode, and then use the volume keys to highlight the ‘Recovery’ option, and then use the power button to boot into CWM recovery.

Then perform a Nandroid Backup of your existing ROM, just in case anything goes wrong and you need to restore it from recovery. Then select ‘wipe data/ factory reset’, and hit ‘yes’ to confirm on the next screen. Once the data wipe is complete, select ‘install zip from sdcard’ then select ‘choose zip from sdcard’ and scroll to the ROM file and select it. Next confirm installation by selecting yes and the ROM will begin installing.

Once the ROM installation is done, select ‘choose zip from sdcard’ again and then select the ‘gapps-jb-20120726-signed zip’ file to install the Google Apps Package. Once complete, select ‘go back’ then select ‘reboot system now’ to reboot the device and boot up into AOKP ROM, which can take five minutes, and you are done.

We have a quick video of the HTC Incredible S running Jelly Bean Android 4.1.1for your viewing consideration below, and is a port based on BlindnDumb’s BlindBEAN v1.5 — Preview Edition VI/ AOKP JellyBean.

So there you go, if any of our Android faithful readers that own the HTC Incredible S give the AOKP ROM a whirl, feel free to let us know how it all goes and if you experience any problems by dropping us a line to our comments area below.
