LG Optimus G vs Samsung Galaxy Note 2, winner is!
Two new flagship devices have recently been announced in the mobile space, Samsung announcing the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 and rival LG announcing the LG Optimus G, both Android quad core devices, but how do these two new flagship handsets stack up against each other, and which device can come out the winner?
Well the folks over at GSM Insider decided to compare the specifications of the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 against the LG Optimus G to see if one can best the other, albeit the Note 2 being a phablet whilst the Optimus G is a smartphone, but let’s take a look at the spec differences anyway.
First off the quad core processor, the Galaxy Note 2 packs a Exynos 1.6GHz quad core whilst the Optimus G packs a Snapdragon S4 1.5Ghz quad core processor, so the guys give the point to LG. Then there’s the operating system, with the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 running Android Jelly Bean whilst the LG Optimus G runs Android Ice Cream Sandwich, so a point to Samsung on this one.
When it comes to RAM it is a draw due to both devices sporting 2GB of RAM, whilst when it comes to ROM, the Galaxy Note 2 wins as the device has 16GB, 32GB and 64GB, whilst the LG Optimus G is ‘N/A’ apparently. On the 4G LTE front again it is a draw as both devices are 4G LTE enabled.
The guys give a win to LG when it comes to the display, as the Galaxy Note 2 sports a 5.5-inch Super AMOLED HD display whilst the Optimus G sports a 4.7-inch in-cell touch HD ISP LCD. On the camera front the LG Optimus G is a clear winner due to sporting a 13 megapixel rear facing camera along with a 1.3 megapixel front facing snapper, while the Galaxy Note 2 has an 8 megapixel rear facing snapper and a 1.9 megapixel front facing camera.
On the subject of the camera, originally the Galaxy Note 2 was rumoured to sport a 13 megapixel camera, however that didn’t become a reality, and the reason Samsung forwent the 13 megapixel camera according to Eastern Morning Herald, was because LG used up most of the high end 13 megapixel sensors for the Optimus G as Sony had allocated most of the sensors to LG and as such couldn’t meet Samsung’s requirements.
Although when it comes to the battery, the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 wins hands down with a 3100mAh battery while the LG Optimus G offers a 2100mAh battery.
In conclusion the guys believe that when it comes to performance the LG Optimus G is better then the Galaxy Note 2 due to the processor being more powerful, and also packing that 13 megapixel camera, but the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 fairs better with Android Jelly Bean, and offer better battery life.
Having said all this, it really is down to personal preference on whether you prefer LG devices or Samsung devices, whether the camera makes much difference to you, and of course whether you want a phablet or smartphone, so basically it’s really down to the customer to decide which of these is the better device.

Well I wouldn’t be so quick to call LG the winner because what I have been reading from other posts and readers about one of the greatest disadvantage about LG is its notorious update service. Supposedly LG isn’t really consistent with updates and they take a long time to develop.
What a load of bullshit this review is. “whilst the LG Optimus G is ‘N/A’ apparently” is a reason to give the Note 2 the point! Do some bloody research and find out the facts first. Judging camera based on megapixels also shows how misinformed and deluded the reviewer is. What about quality under dark light? Speed of focus? Number of megapixels is irrelevant since if the camera produces high noise, then higher mp is worse! Think about it!
ashirviskas, I agree with you. The reviewer just glanced at some information and put together an article based on very simple maths (ie. which phones’ features have the bigger number). The reviewer does not know his elbow from his arse.

Here is something to think about. The hardware can’t be duplicated. The LG phone is cutting edge and pulled off what Samsung couldn’t. Extremely ambitious and will announce US in 9/19. Not to be seen in US for Samsung. LG took all of the 16 MP cameras from Samsung. LG has a A15 CPU. Samsung couldn’t deliver it’s 5250(A15), just overclocked the S3 CPU 1.4->1.6. Screen? Samsung couldn’t deliver it’s flex display. LGs is rad. These were all rumored features to be put into the Note II. I currently have a Note so I’ll get all of the new software soon. Love those ROM cookers. 🙂 Buy a Note I cheap, get the LG, wait for Note 3.

IF YOU SAY THAT THE SAMSUNG GALAXY NOTE HAS A 1.6GHz quad core processor and the lg only has a 1.5GHz quad core proceasor so why you say its a point to the lG

– what is the advantage of IPS+ ( just saying IPS )
– jellybean is just a minor OS upgrade ( 4.0 -> 4.1 ) not as 2.3 -> 4.0. even with ICS , optimus G is twice faster.

what about the gpu in each which has what you guy moan bout cpu is a paper wieght with out a great gpu as my i7 2600 sits awaiting a geforce 560
