iPhone 5, Another Great Industrial Design From Apple

We always love to hear what other consumers think of products, and today Charles Malcolm has given his take on the new iPhone 5, here is what he said: When on September 21 people got a hold of their much coveted iPhone 5 they actually thought they were handed over a dummy phone – no kidding, some actually did and why not! The new iPhone 5 is so much lighter than its predecessor, the iPhone 4S. As per the experts, Apple this time did come up with an excellent industrial design with the new iPhone.

Did you think Apple has reached the height of creative industrial designs with the iPad? Wait until you lay your hands on the new iPhone 5. It’s sleek, lightweight, taller than its predecessors and easy on the eyes. Don’t believe it? Just ask any iPhone 4S user who has upgraded to the new version of Apple’s baby.

Since the new phone is about 18% thinner than its previous model, it has become handier. With all the bulkiness gone the phone came out as considerably lightweight (20% lighter, to be specific) and in order to do so, the phone has given its users an added bonus — a longer screen! What more can one ask for? Now if you are still not sure that design-wise, the new phone is better than iPhone 4S, let us take a quick look at the specifications of both the phones.

iPhone 4S: Design Specifications: Height 4.5 inches (115.2 mm), Width 2.31 inches (58.6 mm), Depth 0.37 inch (9.3 mm) and Weight 4.9 ounces (140 grams).

iPhone 5: Design Specifications: Height 4.87 inches (123.8 mm), Width 2.31 inches (58.6 mm), Depth 0.30 inch (7.6 mm) and Weight 3.95 ounces (112 grams).

So, it is about .27 inches longer and its depth is reduced by 0.07 inch, and the best part, the iPhone 5 is around 28 grams lighter than iPhone 4S (now do the math, it’s 20% lighter!)

Along with it the phone has a bigger screen — a larger 4-inch retina display. All iPhone users know what that does mean — a new row of app icons in the home screen, a better movie experience on mobile, a bit more of web using specific browsers, more of ebook and more such endless possibilities. All the iPhone 5 users must be making the best use of the longer screen by now, and the front is far more attractive too. With ratio of display area to non-display area greater for the 5 compared to the 4S, the phone looks even more polished and sleek.

Apart from the display, the two-toned back plate is also a nice touch. It is also worth mentioning that the metal-clad sides look way better with about 0.7 inches shaved off. This makes all the bulkiness go away at once.

So, in first impression – the iPhone 5 seems to be quite a successful physical design. And we sincerely hope that Apple will continue to create such sleek and attractive industrial designs for most of its future products including the upcoming iPad Mini. After all, the sleekness adds to the design and does more than just aesthetically please the high-end clientele of Apple.
