iPhone 5S release needs to be mind blowing

The iPhone 5 has been a big hit since its recent launch, as we all knew it would be. The latest Apple smartphone is an impressive device and runs on the latest mobile operating system iOS 6. This combination brings a notable handset that is already selling in the millions but it’s fair to say that the new iPhone hasn’t been without its problems. Today we want to look ahead to the iPhone 5S release, which we feel needs to be really mind blowing to win back the loyalty of some consumers who either feel let down by the iPhone 5 or simply wanted more from it.

Of course we cannot be sure what the next iPhone will be called but the iPhone 5S looks likely considering previous iPhone dubbings, so for easy reference we’ll continue to refer to it as that for now. We’ve previously discussed various iPhone 5 problems in detail, including build quality, WiFi issues and mass criticism of the new Apple Maps app. Yesterday we also noted comments from our readers to our story on iPhone 5 battery life and some of you were seeing real issues with battery drainage.

However, despite widely reported concerns about some aspects of the iPhone 5, there’s also a lot to recommend about the specs and features of the phone. Also we should remember that Apple has such a loyal customer base that a new iPhone will always sell in huge numbers, almost despite what it brings. This was the case last year when the iPhone 4S was released looking exactly the same as the iPhone 4. Many had been hoping for a new-look iPhone and there was some disappointment among potential buyers when that failed to materialize. It didn’t stop the iPhone 4S selling in huge numbers though and that also seems to be the case this time around with the iPhone 5.

Many of us were hoping for a completely groundbreaking design for the iPhone 5, especially considering the fact that there was no change between the iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S. Some buyers held off buying the 4S because of this so would have been doubly disappointed to see how little the iPhone 5 design had changed, although to be frank we still think it’s a good-looking handset and the two-tone effect on the rear is a nice touch.

Other people will be more concerned about specs and feature changes of the iPhone 5 rather than its aesthetic appeal though and improvements from the iPhone 4S to the iPhone 5 included the A6 processor, larger display with increased resolution, a better front-facing camera and LTE connectivity. There is also a new nanoSIM and smaller dock connector (although this has also faced criticism). The iPhone 5 was a decent enough upgrade then but hasn’t exactly blown us away. Also iOS 6 didn’t provide any additions for the iPhone 5 that didn’t also come to the iPhone 4S and along with the Apple Maps app there have also been issues with Siri, battery life, Passbook, social media integration and more.

We’re not attempting to slam the iPhone 5 and will stress that as we said previously, it’s a highly impressive smartphone. It would be unrealistic though not to point out that it has some flaws. So turning our attention back to the next iPhone, possibly called the iPhone 5S, we do feel that this needs to be a truly exceptional device with groundbreaking specs and features and an amazing new design.

Some of the most obvious improvements include even higher storage options, a further improved camera setup, quad-core processor and of course the next upgraded operating system but what else could Apple bring to the table to blow our minds? We’d really like to hear your thoughts on the iPhone 5S and what Apple could do to make this a real must-have device, although of course Android enthusiasts will never agree with the idea of any iPhone being a ‘must-have.’

Were you intending to purchase the iPhone 5 but haven’t been completely won over by what it offers? Have you any ideas for something incredible for the iPhone 5S, either for specs and features or concerning the design? We’re intrigued to hear what readers may come up with so let us have your comments on this.

Im currently using a SGS2 and have been for nearly 2 years now – i did at one point ownan iphone 4 and very much liked – but then i opted for the S2 because of thr reviewsad specs. When i go it though it has been plauged with more issues than the iphone 5 has or ever will – at one point it deleted everything from my contacts to my info. This was just one problem among many – now im due for an upgrade and im thinking between the 4S and 5 – mainly because i like the desgin of the 4S but the 5 in white isnt too bad either – anywho i think the 5 isnt a bad phone simply the delivery of it was underwhelming as was the 4S’s. Ive expirenced android from the HYC ONE X to my SGS2 and more but i think overall i prefer the iPhone because of its stabilty and unification.

Very unrealistic of you to demand new design from Apple! They have been at work for the past 2 years and came up with this design! The size of the screen has been carefully chosen for the widescreen ratio! Now if they go any wider with the display, by the same token, they have to go taller too; which is HIGHLY UNLIKELY to happen, not in 5s at least. And as it stands, for a 4-inch display, iPhone5 has the sleekest SEXIEST and most mind blowing design. I’m saying that while i’m a Galaxy Note user! But know iPhone.

I have to disagree, First off if Apple wanted to make the iphone 5 four years ago they could of, but instead they keep releasing a new device every year for consumers to buy. like the iphone 4 why release that one when they could of released the iphone 4s or 5! I do like the iphone 5 but for a design change for the 5s keep dreaming lol! Its gonna look much like the iphone 5 kinda how the iphone 4s looked like the 4

The new iphone 5 isnt ground breaking at all, I currently have the 4s.. There’s absolutely no reason for me to upgrade, the size difference when compared side by side is a moot point.. The features they included this go around have been out for quite some time now. If they dont do something drastic, I’m definately going back to Android.

Not quite ready to buy iPhone. I want 802.11ac and, as a bonus, “ad” as well. Don’t want to see an iPhone that is physically larger, but it would be great if the bezel width could be reduced. Perhaps they could copy the design of the Samsung Galaxy S3? 😉

since Samsung make most of their products they need to take a leaf outbox there book I mean cum on I’ve jus swapped my 4s with a stupid friend for a galaxy s3 and to see the amo LED screen on a iPhone would be amazing cus to be frankly theb retainia display ain’t anything impressive to that

I’ve been a iPhone use since the 3G came out but only tend to change once every few years, as I am not one to jump on the Apple 6 month bandwagon.

The biggest issue is the cost is not justified anymore, unfortunately I do have a number of video and songs purchased through iTunes, however I am now getting to the stage where I am considering ‘ripping’ these just so I can move over to the new Galaxy S 3

The 5S or 6 will have to be a HUGE step forward to convince me to stay with Apple in the long term, the main issue is that the phone should at a minimum be able to match the abilities of it’s Android rivals which it doesn’t.

apple need to upgrade camera to around 12 megapixels with xenon flash plus their design is gr8 just need to have some more color options black headphones r needed 2

  9. Adam says:

Lets be honest, Apple update and apparently upgrade every six months. The same thing only better this time apparently. There will never be the iPhone to end all iPhones, there’s always some other piece of technology that will be held back until the next release. For that reason I’m still rocking the iPhone 3GS, I don’t need to talk to my phone..my car talks to me. I don’t need an electronic passbook, I like to make sure that I have my passport and tickets in my hand and not on a device whose battery could run out at any point. Until Apple bring something out that will actually benefit my life then I’ll keep my money in my wallet.

I personally think that iphone5 is an astonishing piece of equipment, however when they announced the features of the new iPhone, I have to say I was anything but impressed. Don’t get me wrong the iPhone 5 is an outstanding smartphone but it did not take the leap anywhere near I expected it too. I’m currently using an iPhone 4 and I personally can’t see Much difference between the two phone in terms of features etc. I am a loyal apple customer and will certainly be purchasing the iPhone 5 but I also believe that apple need to step up a notch or will soon be left behind by incoming competitors, there are some fantastic smartphones out there’s it is only a matter of time until apple are caught up unless something groundbreaking occurs (which will not happen with the 5s. So looks like we’ll be waiting till the iPhone 6 hopefully comes along and smacks us all in the teeth

  11. Maybe Apple says:

They need to make it more texting friendly. IMO they need a feature like Droid’s SWYPE. It makes texting such a breeze, in fact that’s one of the main reasons I haven’t already switched over to an iPhone. I find that all other features are pretty standard over the “Smartphone family” just with a diff GUI.
