Nexus 7 32GB to replace 16GB version & Android 4.1.2 released

When Google first released the Nexus 7 tablet PC it provided the market with a reasonably high spec device, but was priced more competitively than most of the competition at the time. The device has been available in both 8GB and 16GB versions without the option of expansion, but it seems a Nexus 7 with 32GB of storage is set to replace the 16GB version and priced the same. Meanwhile an Android 4.1.2 update has been released for the device.

There has been a number of reports recently suggesting a 32GB version of the Nexus 7 was inbound, which started with a retailers inventory being leaked, and then a luckily customer that ordered the 16GB model was actually sent a 32GB version. Previously it was thought a 32GB release would mean that a price cut would be given to the 16GB model, but now it seems this version is to be phased out instead.

According to Phandroid a source that works for a retailer is claiming that the 32GB Nexus 7 is actually going to replace the 16GB model, and when you consider that a consumer was treated to the bigger version of the device, there may be some truth in these claims. Of course it has to be remembered no 32GB Nexus 7 has actually been officially announced yet by Google, even though it only seems a matter of time before they do.

It also seems safe to assume that when any such device is released, Google will keep the price on the competitive side considering the offerings now available from Amazon, and this is coupled with the fact we could soon see a smaller iPad.

Meanwhile according to GSM Arena Google has released an update to Jelly Bean ASOP for the Nexus 7, and taking the device to Android 4.1.2. The new software has been arriving on the device around the world, and it is thought the likes of the Motorola Xoom, Nexus S, and Galaxy Nexus will also be getting the update soon.

The minor update brings with it some bug fixes along with a promise of increased performance, and for the Nexus 7 it enables landscape orientation to both the lock screen and homescreen. The update has the build number of JZO54K, and is 31.3MB in size.

  1. Ok funny, I just bought a 16mb for 250.00, two days ago, I can see class action lawsuits flying,…. should I take it back and wait a month????…. I love my NEXUS 7 but I am not a dummy, if Google really does that, without taking care of the people that just bought it there will be so much bad press they will wish, they gave away NEXUS 7’s

Google hit a huge success with the innovative nexus 7 , not just for the tablet market but for the whole nexus brand , placing itself in a position to challenge apple ( what is great for us customers ) . But to disappoint early buyers would be an uninspired decision from Google after apple CEO went public to apologise early faithful buyers for the fiasco with maps and to say everybody to use the Google maps while their service is not ready ( this is big ! ). Apple leaders know that making great innovative products is not enough , you have to own people’s trust and the early adopters are an estrategic group because they want to be the first to have the product , they are trustful buyers , That’s why apple have such enormous legions of folowers willing to pay for very expense products .

I think he meant dollars. I had paid £208 (including postage) for mine. and if the 32GB is realeased at the same price… I will be on the phone immediately asking for a free upgrade to the 32GB version because that just isn’t on… and I’m a whole-hearted Google fan.

I feel bad for everyone who has just gotten a 16GB NEXUS 7, on the other hand I suppose that’s the price you (always risk to) pay for wanting to be an early adopter,.
Whenever some new gadget thingy is released and you immediately ‘need ‘to have it. Then this is the risk you take.

I think that 8gb version should be replaced with 16 (for the price of 8gb) and 16 with 32. Well ppl who bought 16gb version just recently may feel bad, but if it’s really a problem for you, then you can give back 16gb to the retailer and wait for 32gb. People who bought 16gb as nexus 7 was released shouldn’t have any claims, new things are usually more expensive. Anyway I would be pissed off if it would happen to me ;P I didnt buy nexus 7 yet and i wanted to do so but I think that I will wait. Getting 32gb would be a lot better than 16gb.
