GoPro app download for Android, control camera now

Back in October we gave readers some news about a photography app called GoPro that had released for the iOS platform. We told you then that the GoPro app would also be available for Android device users in the future and today we can tell you that the Android GoPro app has now been launched. We think many Android users will appreciate this app to remotely control their GoPro cameras.

In our previous post about the iOS GoPro app we told how it could be used with a Wi-Fi BacPac-enabled HD HERO2 camera and the app enables the user to have total control of their camera settings remotely, through their smartphone or tablet. The free Android app can be found at Google Play here and is compatible with devices running Android 2.2 or later although the app description says that the best results will be with devices running Android 4.0 or later. It also informs that older Android devices may experience inconsistent video streaming results.

Remember the Android GoPro app is NOT compatible with the original HD HERO. However it WILL be compatible in November with the HD HERO 3: White and Silver Edition and in December for the HD HERO 3: Black Edition. The GoPro app for Android will give users access to Photo of the Day and Video of the Day channels and you will need a product update available to download free here, before using your GoPro Wi-Fi device.

If you want to see more about GoPro products head here where you will find details of the HD HERO cameras that are available plus accessories. If you’re an Android device user have you been waiting for the GoPro app on Android from Google Play? Maybe you’ve already tried it out and can tell us what you think? Let us know with your comments.
