HTC One X+ vs Droid DNA, considering the winner

With the holiday season fast approaching many people decide that a new smartphone will be at the top of their wish lists. However with the sheer amount of impressive phones around at the moment it can be very difficult to decipher which might be best for you. Today we’re taking a look at the HTC One X+ vs. Droid DNA in a bid to consider the winner as regards to which might be the best choice for you.

These are both highly regarded devices from HTC and while the One X+ (or One X Plus) has just become available in various regions across the world the Droid DNA is a phone for Verizon in the US and ships from today, with availability in Verizon stores from November 21. Of course the HTC One X+ definitely holds the advantage in this respect but if you’re in the US you’ll be able to choose from both. Although we cannot delve into the full features and spec of each device as there is so much to take into account, we will focus on the key details and factors that should hopefully give you a very good idea of what each phone has to offer. In many ways they are very similar although there are some important differences too.

Processor
The HTC One X+ is powered by a 1.7GHz NVIDIA Tegra 3 quad-core processor while the Droid DNA has a 1.5GHz Qualcomm quad-core Krait processor. Both are very well equipped in this respect then.

Display
The HTC One X+ has a 4.7-inch Super LCD2 display with resolution of 1280 x 720 and 312ppi. This is a very decent display but the Droid DNA’s display has been greeted with huge praise with many experts saying it’s the best they’ve ever seen (although not everybody is so convinced). The Droid DNA has a whopping 5-inch Super LCD3 display with resolution of 1920 x 1080 and a massive 441ppi, taking display specs to a new level.

RAM and Storage
You’ll find 1GB of RAM and either 32 or 64GB (non-expandable) internal storage options for the One X+ but although the Droid DNA has 2GB of RAM it has only 16GB of internal storage that is also non-expandable.

Camera
An 8-megapixel rear camera with autofocus, LED flash, 1080p video recording with simultaneous video and image capture is touted on the One X+ as well as a 1.6-megapixel 720p front-facing camera. The Droid DNA also has an 8-megapixel rear camera featuring autofocus, LED flash, 1080p video recording with simultaneous video and image capture but steps up with the front-facing shooter to 2.1-megapixels and full 1080p HD.

Operating Systems
The HTC One X+ released on Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean while the Droid DNA has 4.1 Jelly Bean upgradeable to 4.2 Jelly Bean at some point. Both also feature HTC Sense UI 4+.

Battery
There’s not much between them here with the One X+ having a 2100mAh battery and the Droid DNA having a 2020mAh battery. To be honest it’s a shame that both don’t have a larger battery capacity.

Dimensions
The One X+ measures 134.4mm x 69.9mm x 8.9mm and weighs 135g. The Droid DNA measures 141mm x 70.5mm x 9.7mm, weighing in at 138g.

Pricing and Color
The One X+ price will obviously vary by region but in the US for example is likely to set you back around $199 on the usual two-year contract. It comes in black or white color options. There’s nothing to split them here then as the Droid DNA on Verizon also costs $199 on-contract but is only available in black.

Both phones are very impressive and we’ll add that both are also LTE-equipped and also support NFC. On many occasions as both are so notable the design may help you to make up your mind, as this is very much a personal preference. However in the case of the One X+ and Droid DNA they are also both very appealing phones to look at too so this may confuse you further instead of making your choice easier.

It’s actually pretty hard to choose between these two phones and decide an outright winner but two of the main differences are the display and the amount of storage. The One X+ has more internal storage and this will be more important to some people than others. On the other hand the Droid DNA’s display has received so many plaudits that it’s hard to ignore and many of you will decide that having a larger, better display is the most important factor for you. The front-facing full 1080p HD camera on the Droid DNA also beats the equivalent for the One X+ with 720p so that’s another point to take into account.

We’d like to hear from readers about the HTC One X+ and HTC Droid DNA. Taking the above details into account which of these two smartphones would you choose? Let us know with your comments.

it actually isn’t locked. it’s sim-unlocked so you can pop in an at&t or t-mobile simcard. but you’ll have to pay full retail price for the phone though :/

That’s not true the droid DNA is cdma while the one x plus is gsm so the onlyother option other than verizon would be sprint the HTC one x plus is the phone I choose to go with because the amazing screen of the DNA is a battery hog and it has less refresh rate than the plus also believe it or not the tegra 3 at 1.7 GHz outperforms the s4 snap krait at 1.5 GHz but only marginally

the droid dna all day. the S4 pro beats the tegra 3 any day, even if the tegra 3 is overclocked. and add an extra gig of RAM to the dna and it’s as high-end as it gets. not to mention that display is very beautiful to look at

Have you actually seen the benchmark results for these two processors? And 11gb of usable storage is ridiculous if you want to get the potential out of the 2gb of Ram

Exactly. Each of these phones is carrier-exclusive in the States: The One X+ is ONLY available on AT&T; The Droid DNA is ONLY available on Verizon. So your choice is really going to be dictated by which carrier you’re on, or are willing to start a new contract with (I’m on AT&T, with a corporate contract, so there was no choice in the matter for me. It had to be the One X+). Personally, I prefer the physical design of the One X+: The 5″ display on the DNA, though only slightly larger than the 4.7″ one on the One X+, strikes me as a tad TOO large. Plus the One X+, just generally LOOKS BETTER; more beautiful – to me. And I find that bottom flap that covers the USB port on the DNA to be ABSOLUTELY HIDEOUS (I’ve always hated flaps). Outside of the design differences, however, the DNA does have the 2GB RAM, which I certainly wouldn’t have minded on the One X+. And while the DNA’s display has the high pixel density, I’m certainly not left wanting for a higher quality display on the One X+. It’s still plenty beautiful. In fact, the only thing I would change on the One X+ would be to add an additional 1Gb RAM. Otherwise, I think the One X+ is damn near PERFECT. So anyway, yeah, it depends on what carrier you’re with. Can’t go wrong with either, really.

i was trying to decide between the two and i picked up the one x+ as a review about poor DNA battery performance scared me off. that display is beautiful but will eat your battery. surprised they didn’t put in a Razr style beast of a battery for that phone. meanwhile very happy with the one x+. camera rocks, audio is great, looks and feels sturdy, fast, great display, and excellent at&t LTE speeds.

Ridiculous, everybody here saying that HTC One X + is a better phone. No way is that true. I just ran my contract out with sprint and was looking to change carriers, I went over to ATT and gave the phone a look. It is a very impressive phone, I will say. DNA however is just tad better, if you ask me. It has a very sleek design, the red stripe around the phone gives the feel of a racing car. It is a wonderfully designed phone. I would say DNA is a better design for men, while One X + is more suited for women (as far as designs go)

The screen on the DNA is beautiful, and it is one of the main reasons I chose DNA. I don’t know why everybody is criticizing the phone due to its battery. I go from 6:00 AM, up until about 10-11 PM with the overnight charge. I use the media on the phone extensively, as well as games. The battery is fine, you’re not looking for a phone that will last a trip to the moon and back.

They are both really great phones, however, the DNA is by far the winner. I know everybody is going to be partial to the phone they have. It’s just human nature to defend your purchase. I actually own the DNA and I have an associate that works for me who owns the One X +. We have ran the them side by side in several benchmark test and results swing to the DNA by a pretty big margin. Quadrant Standard for the One X + is in the 7300 – 7500 range while the DNA cranks out 8200 – 8400. Antutu results are even more lop-sided. One X + results are 14,000 while the DNA hits 21,000.
The screen on the DNA is just un-believable! No other way to describe it. And as far as battery life goes, I was completely amazed at how good it is. I was very worried the screen will just totally suck the battery life but to my surprise it does not! I usually go 16 to 17 hours a day and still have plenty more juice to go. As a matter of fact, 16 hours yesterday and I still had 52% left! I have never owned a smartphone with this good of battery life. I’m not what you call a “power user” by all means but I do use my phone for a lot.
Not to mention the DNA is just a more appealing handset period! We have both pulled our phones out and people just gravitate to the DNA (even without the screens on). The clean look with red accents is just eye candy! Everyday my associate says, “I wish the DNA was on AT&T network”…..
