Verizon Galaxy S3 Jelly Bean update VRBLK1, official approval closer

If you’re the owner of a Samsung Galaxy S3 on Verizon then you may well have been frustrated by the lack of Android 4.1 Jelly Bean so far. The OS update has been rumored to be coming for some time but it seems there’s some more promising news today as a new build, VRBLK1, has now leaked. This could be the final build, which means an official release may be pushed out soon.

A week ago we told readers that the Jelly Bean update for the Galaxy S3 had been reported to be almost ready and would be released to more devices in December, although some lucky owners in some regions have already received it. This followed hot-on-the heels of a leaked ROM for the Verizon Galaxy S3, VRBLJ1 in Odex or Deodex, thought at that time to be a final build of the update. However a new build has now appeared, VRBLK1, and it looks as though this could be the final build instead and if finally approved this means that Verizon Galaxy S3 owners could be close now to the Jelly Bean rollout for their device.

A report on Droid-Life says that the site was tipped off that an official rollout of Jelly Bean for the Verizon Galaxy S3 would be pushed out by November 16, but obviously that day came and went with no sign. The new build for version 4.1.1 turned up though on November 15 and can be downloaded through XDA Developers. It’s possible then that the original tip meant that the final build would be out by November 16 rather than actually pushed out to devices.

Here at Phones Review we always caution against using leaked ROMs for updates as things can go wrong, especially if you’re not sure what you’re doing. We always recommend waiting for the official updates to roll out and so if you choose to go ahead then the responsibility is entirely your own. At the same time though we appreciate that many people enjoy customizing their devices so bring you the details so that you can make up your own minds.

If you do choose to use the ROM then the XDA Developers link above provides the necessary files and you’ll also need to have an unlocked bootloader on your Galaxy S3 as well as Odin. Remember this leaked ROM is only suitable for the Verizon variant of the Galaxy S3. If you’re one of the many Verizon Galaxy S3 owners who would rather wait for the update to be officially pushed out by Verizon and Samsung then hopefully this is a promising sign that you won’t have to wait too much longer.

Are you a Verizon Galaxy S3 owner waiting patiently, or not so patiently, for your taste of Android Jelly Bean? How do you feel about the fact that it has taken so long and still the official update has not been rolled out? Let us know with your comments.

I see nothing to be frustrated about – Ice Cream Sandwich is just fine. But I will be glad to have Google Now and the rest of Jelly Bean once the new OS is finally on my phone. 🙂
