Nokia Lumia 920 release seemingly going well
Nokia has seen its smartphone share sitting in the doldrums in the last few years losing massive ground to the likes of Apple and Samsung, and was often refereed too as a company that made great phones but with terrible operating systems. The company then decided to ditch its Symbian software in favour of Microsoft’s Windows Phone platform, and the latest Nokia Lumia 920 release is seemingly going well.
According to a report via Yahoo China the company has supposedly received 2.5 million orders for the Lumia 920 that equates to more than the rest of the Lumia range altogether during the third quarter of this year.
There have been numerous reports of the handset selling out in certain countries such as Australia and Japan, and at the time of writing the cyan and yellow version on Amazon.com is showing out of stock with the black model saying due to demand the device could take longer than two weeks to ship.
If these figures prove to be accurate it will be welcome news for Nokia as for the last few years the company has relied on sales of its feature phones in emerging markets to keep its sales ticking over.
The handset has only been available for a short while and these figures may just be for orders received from various third party sellers and carriers around the world instead of physical sales to the public, but the device offers consumers a worthy alternative to the iPhone or Android hardware.
In the US the device is currently exclusive to AT&T and the carrier is making a big push marketing the device, and for your money you get a device with a 4.5-inch IPS TFT touchscreen that has a resolution of 1280 x 768.
Under the hood is a 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon dual core Krait chip coupled with 1GB of RAM and 32GB of non-expandable storage. The company has long been famous for supplying quality cameras on their smartphones, and the Lumia 920 doesn’t buck this trend with an eight megapixel rear shooter with the award winning PureView technology, while around the front is a 1.3 megapixel camera.
This is all packed into a form factor of 130.3mm x 70.8mm x 10.7mm and weighing 185 grams, but we will have to wait for official results from Nokia themselves to gauge how well the Lumia 920 is actually doing. Source via Google Translate.

Yup, got it – very well built phone. OS needs some attention and a bit of tweaking, that’s all. Overall, very pleased.
Had it for 2 weeks now, falling in love with it. Great phone , great OS , great Nokia apps.
Once enough people have bought it the appstore will be as good as any, and by all accounts we are getting there quickly.

I have been looking at smartphones for about 4 months now. My first smartphone was Windows based. Then I switched to iOS & Android. I liked Android at first, but the fragmentation is horrid. The updated are slow. I have to applaud iOS on that. They release their new operating systems and it works smoothly. Yes, I looked at HTC & Nokia’s Windows 8 Phones. I’m impressed with Windows 8. Holding all the windows phones and playing with them. I must admit that Nokia 920 is built solid, and looks and feels sturdy and responds IMHO much better and smoother than the HTC version. The camera appears to take very nice pictures, the size is not a problem at all. The weight is excellent. If you take an iPhone 4 and add a good sturdy case to protect your investment they weigh about the same. The drawback to the Nokia 920 IMO is that it needs a have a microSD slot, not be exclusively for AT&T in the U.S.A., they need to get more apps. though their music software is not bad, HTC’s beats is much better. As we know the USA is basically a CDMA country, I will venture into the GSM world with AT&T, if I’m not happy I will have to go and settle for the Verizon’s version Nokia 822. It is a nice phone, bur once you see the 920 and the 822 you will pick the 920. We’ll see how improved coverage is with AT&T. I here they have come a long way since the last time I tried the GSM network in the USA. If not I would have to settle for the 822 :o(
Got it last week, Amazing screen and resolution, unlimited music (offline as well) with Nokia’s music service, very fast OS, great Camera, overall the hardware is probably the best out there right now.
I’ve had the Apple iPhone and various HTC models, none match up to the Nokia Lumia 920. The Lumia 920 has been in my possession for two weeks, constantly delighting and surprising me. Build quality is excellent, very sleek, expensive feel, and strong, very strong. Setting up email with my pop mail provider was with other phones, a pain. Window 8 asked me to enter my email address and password, and although my email address is an alias it configured my account perfectly, no additional setting required. The Nokia’s camera has to be seen, it’s so sensitive to light it is in my opinion just a small step away from having night vision. I will admit, Windows 8 does need further support by its developers to increase the number of apps available, though I have no doubt this is just a matter of time. Get the 920, you won’t regret it. Well done Nokia!
Bought a Lumia 920 from Phone4u this morning to replace my aging iPhone 3GS, I’ve been mucking around with it all today, and I’m pretty much amazed, it’s a way better experience than I was expecting. Nokia Drive+ bloomin fab (bye bye satnav as I download upto date maps for the whole UK to my phone completely free). Nokia Maps too, ease of setting up the phone, just pulled all my contacts off my iPhone via bluetooth, setting up email was just so simple, ease of connecting to my Windows PC, a totally gorgeous screen, blow away camera, oh and a special mention goes to Nokia Music – those mixes are great – put a totally unexpected smile on my face, and I can download them for free to the phone. Oh yeah, it looks class in red… first red one they’ve seen in that branch and everybody was taking a peek. If the WP apps continue to grow I’ll remain happy. Nokia has definitely delivered!
