Galaxy S3 Canada Jelly Bean update gives hope to US waiters

The Samsung Galaxy S3 Jelly Bean update has been a somewhat frustrating saga for many customers. Although the official rollout began some time ago there are still plenty of owners who haven’t seen the update come to their Galaxy S3 just yet. We have now learned that Canada is to start receiving the rollout on December 3. This will surely give hope to Verizon and AT&T customers in the US who are still waiting.

We’ve been detailing Jelly Bean release information as we hear it and although Sprint and T-Mobile in the US have begun the rollout the release is still awaited for the other two major US carriers. Verizon and AT&T are progressing with network testing and we shouldn’t forget that many Galaxy S3 owners in the UK are also still waiting. However the latest news about the rollout for Canada beginning next week is a promising sign that more consumers will soon receive the update.

Samsung Canada just gave the good news about the Jelly Bean rollout there via Twitter but specific carrier news hasn’t been given yet. The tweet released said that the over-the-air Jelly Bean update would begin on Monday and also asked customers to stay tuned for further announcements about Jelly Bean shortly. Hopefully we will then hear further carrier-specific news about the rollout. As Phandroid reports, there’s no reason to think it will be limited to certain carriers though and it’s more likely that Jelly Bean for the Galaxy S3 will be hitting most of the major carriers in Canada from Monday.

If the Jelly Bean update is ready for Canada it seems likely that AT&T and Verizon will follow soon. We recently told how a leaked ROM, build VRBLK1, was now available for Verizon owners that looks to be the final build but at Phones Review we always recommend that readers wait for the official rollouts of operating system updates if possible. It could be that AT&T could pip Verizon to the post though as the carrier uses similar bands to several Canadian operators. Of course we shall continue to follow all the latest developments on this and as soon as we hear more details we will pass it on to our readers.

We’d like to hear from Samsung Galaxy S3 owners about the Android Jelly Bean update for their device. Are you in Canada and pleased to hear it could be coming to you from Monday? Maybe you’re one of those in the US still waiting for Verizon and AT&T to get on with the rollout and wonder how much longer you’ll be drumming your fingers? Let us know with your comments.

With AT&T here in the USA. I switched over from iPhone (have had them all except 5) and I enjoy a lot of the Samsung S3 options. Really looking forward to the update though, especially to try out Google Now and even better notifications. I’m annoyed by AT&T, and I’m glad that I bought this phone outright, instead of signing another contract. I have to say it’s a little disappointing to switch over from a device that got its updates at the same time, versus something that seems so random. I understand there are probably many good reasons, but they sure don’t do a good job explaining them!

As long as the carriers can put the phones out the door, they give little care about updates. At least with the iPhone, it takes this responsibility away from the carriers, which is why it’s updates are consistent. The only reason Android does it this way is so all the bloated crapware can be loaded for each model and carrier.
