Archos 101 XS Jelly Bean 4.1.1 & Google Play updates

The rolling out of the Android Jelly Bean update is gathering pace as we are now beginning to see more hardware being treated to the later operating system, obviously there are now a couple of different versions of Jelly Bean currently doing the rounds though, and we now have news for owners of the Archos 101 XS as the device begins to receive Android Jelly Bean 4.1.1 and some Google Play updates.

The company has revealed that they have begun pushing out the Android 4.1.1 update to 101 XS owners and as with any firmware update on the platform it will see a staggered release so it could take a while to reach everybody. The device has only been available for a short time but the update will build on the ICS firmware the device already has to bring some welcome new features to the tablet.

There may be some owners a little disappointed that the update isn’t Android 4.2 but good things always come to those that wait, and this latest update the company has also added some new features to the Archos Video Player.

Users will now find it easier to get information on videos with media indexing also made simpler, and in the future the company has revealed that the embedded applications will be updated via the Google Play Store. Jelly Bean itself will offer some nice new features to the tablet that include Google Now.

There will also be overall improvements to the speed and performance of the Archos 101 XS thanks to Project Butter as well as improved calendar features among other Jelly Bean features. Considering there are still a large number of Android tablets still sitting on Ice Cream Sandwich owners of the Archos 101XS will have some bragging rights once they receive this firmware update.
