Official Oppo Find 5, possible Droid DNA / Butterfly rival

We’ve been hearing leaks and rumors about the Oppo Find 5 smartphone for some time now and this much-awaited handset was finally made official today. Although it was thought at one time that this would only be released for the Chinese market we heard more recently that it would also become available in the U.S. This is one impressive smartphone and with its 5-inch display it could seriously rival other new smartphones such as the HTC Droid DNA / Butterfly.

The HTC J Butterfly was launched in Japan and will become known as simply the HTC Butterfly when it releases in other world regions in the next few months. A Verizon variant for the US has also released under the name HTC Droid DNA. Now we’ve cleared that up we’ll give you a brief recap of the specs and features of the Droid DNA /Butterfly such as its 1.5GHz quad-core Krait processor, 5-inch Super LCD3 display with 1920 x 1080 resolution along with 441 ppi. It also has 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage (expandable via microSD), 8-megapixel rear camera with1080p video recording capability and 2.1 megapixel front-facing camera and it all runs on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, upgradeable to 4.2.

Turning back to the newly-official Oppo Find 5 announced in Beijing today and many of the specs and features that we had previously posted about turned out to be accurate. The Oppo Find 5 has a 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon APQ8064 quad-core processor and a 5-inch display with resolution of 1920 x 1080 and a stunning 441ppi, the same as for the Droid DNA /Butterfly. There’s also 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage (this time non-expandable), a 13-megapixel rear HDR-capable camera with impressive video capability of 120 frames per second and burst mode, 1.9-megapixel front-facing camera and the Oppo Find 5 also runs on 4.1 Jelly Bean.

The Oppo Find 5 looks seriously good competition then for many of the brand-new handsets arriving on the market and as you can see it has many similar specs to the Droid DNA /Butterfly although steps up a notch with the camera set up. Oppo announced that it will arrive early in 2013 to “selected markets” and we already know that it will be available at some point in the US priced at around $499 SIM-free although it remains to be seen if this will be officially launched in the States or whether it will be sold through third-party distributors. It would be compatible in the US with AT&T, T-Mobile and Simple Mobile networks.

It seems that Chinese manufacturers such as Oppo are about to make real headway into global markets if they can come up with more smartphones as notable as the Oppo Find 5. As well as top-notch specs the handset also looks stunning and this phone could well find plenty of buyers worldwide.

Would you consider purchasing the Oppo Find 5 smartphone, especially at such a reasonable SIM-free price? Let us know with your comments.

If the J Butterfly were available here in the U.S. I would buy it but due to the lack of SD storage, I won’t even consider buying the DNA or the Oppo 5.
