Many hardcore gamers have long used high specification desktop computers or laptops to get their gaming fix, as the devices are easily upgraded to cope with the increasing demand of more complex gaming tasks. Now though there could be a new kid on the block in the form of a gaming tablet, which is from Razer and its Project Fiona that will be a 10.1-inch slate with some worthy specs to whet your appetite.

The prototype was first unveiled back in January at the CES 2012 event but as there has been such a huge demand for the device via Facebook, the device got the green light to be properly developed for release to the gaming masses. The company behind the device, Razer, had decided what the rough design of the tablet would be like with its 10.1-inch display.

This is coupled with a pair of analogue controller sticks placed on either side that have various buttons and triggers, but Razer had not settled on the final specifications of the device at first, but due to the vast demand for the tablet from Facebook fans the company asked these fans to help come up with ideas for the internal components of the Project Fiona device.

It seems that potential purchases of the device want it to be the most powerful tablet currently available, coupled with battery friendly components. Those voting decided on either the Intel Core i5 or Core i7 processor inside the device that would be used with more mid-range graphics hardware. The same people have told Razer that the size and weight of the device are of less importance to them.

This of course will mean the device won’t be as portable as some other tablet PC’s available such as the Apple iPad, with voting allowing for the gaming tablet to be double the thickness and weight of the Apple product. This though will allow for better internals and a battery that should allow for a good length of gaming time to be had.

Voters also wanted the controllers to be detachable while in use, and gamers seem willing to pay anywhere in between $1300 and $1500 for the gaming tablet once available, which is more than the $1000 that was suggested originally.

The process is kicking into gear as the first prototype devices are already being tested by the FCC in the US, and then we will have to wait for an official release date and availability to be revealed. There are some that worry the price is a bit high considering some of the lower spec components that may be fitted into the device and the alternative gaming laptops that are available.
