Sony Xperia Yuga flagship to take on HTC Butterfly & Oppo Find 5

We first heard about the Sony Xperia Yuga 2013 flagship device back in October when it was referred to as the C6603 Yuga or C660X Yuga. There were scant details available at that time and then in November the Yuga was spotted in the wild giving us a little more detail. Now some further specs of the Xperia Yuga have come to light along with two new photos and from what we’ve seen we can’t wait to find out even more.

As well as the Yuga benchmarks that gave us some early details about the next-generation flagship device, the first spot also gave some promising specs and features and it looks as though Sony is set to give the competition a run for its money with the Yuga and also another flagship device on its way, the Odin. The latest on the Yuga (bear in mind this is a codename and so it will finally emerge with a fresh name), backs up some of the earlier specification leaks and there are also two brand-new photos available.

Well-known Russian tech blogger Eldar Murtazin posted the new photographs as well as confirming some previous information such as a 5-inch 1080p display that now appears to be an LCD display rather than an OLED one. It also appears that rather than an Exynos 5 quad-core processor the Xperia Yuga will have the Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro, as so many new top-end phones are using. We had also previously heard that the Yuga would feature a 12 or 13-megapixel rear camera with Exmor RS CMOS sensor, although GSM Arena says a new rumor suggests it could be as high as 16-megapixels.

Other previous details for the Yuga are 2GB of RAM, microSD expansion and a unibody frame and Murtazin also confirms the rear of the phone to be flat with a glass back as well as detailing a shutter key on the side of the handset. It looks as though the Yuga with its 5-inch 1080p display could take on the other 5-inch full HD phones being announced such as the HTC Butterfly /Droid DNA and the Oppo Find 5 and we can’t wait to find out more.

We imagine that Sony has plans to show the Xperia Yuga at CES 2013 in January or MWC in February but either way it shouldn’t be too much longer until we have further details. In the meantime let us know what you think of the Yuga from what we know so far? What do you think of the design of the handset? Send your comments to let us know.
