Boombot REX speaker on par with Jawbone Jambox now funded

If you are someone that enjoys listening to music on the go, and you are in the market for a portable speaker so you can blast out the music from your smartphone then you just might like to consider a new portable speaker called the Boombot REX, which is said to be on par with the Jawbone Jambox, which is the smallest best selling wireless speaker and speakerphone.

The Boombot REX speaker is apparently the first ultra-portable 2.1 speaker system to ever be built, and is the next evolution in the Boombot range and offers a revolutionary acoustic and industrial design, whilst enabling the user to stay connected with their music while keeping their smartphone in their pocket.

The Boombot REX used Bluetooth to stream music, and change tracks, along with the ability to allow or deny incoming calls, whilst being multi-device compatible so can connect with the iPod, tablets, laptops, and smartphones.

The REX has been designed to fit in the palm of your hand whilst also featuring fully interchangeable grills and belt clips so you can clip the accessory to your belt, or handlebars and such. The REX features a ruggedised high impact ABS shell with its circuit board fixed to its internal frame, and the device has been IP53 certified for water resistance.

When compared to the Jawbone Jambox, the Boombot REX measures 85 x 80 x 52mm with a weight of 169 grams, whilst the Jawbone Jambox measures 151 x 57 x 40mm with a weight of 347 grams, so the REX is somewhat lighter than the Jambox, and in a test the Jambox’s airtight housing and large passive radiator boosted it to deliver pronounced bass response, whilst the REX performed well at higher frequencies.

We have embedded a video of the sound test comparing the Boombot REX with the Jawbone Jambox and another device for your viewing consideration below, along with a quick demo video of the REX, and the promo video for the device.

The Boombot REX has a power output of 3W x2, with a 4 Ohm impedance, 2 x 36mm drivers, with a loudness of 87db at 2 foot, sports a 1000mAh battery that can last between 4 to 8-hours depending on conditions, has a wireless range of between 25ft and 40ft, features Siri integration, a fully customisable sound profile and a three button interface.

However, of course you can’t purchase the Boombot REX just yet because it was a Kickstarter project that was initially looking for a funding goal of $27,000; however the project managed to garner $73,897 in pledges and as such will be funded as of the 12th of January 2013, and is said to be half the price of the Jawbone Jambox.

Could any of our readers make use of the Boombot REX speaker?
