Samsung Galaxy S2 and Note Jelly Bean 4.1.2 update stalls

Over the last few weeks we have seen the Samsung Galaxy S3 being upgraded to various versions of the Android Jelly Bean operating system. Meanwhile there were hopes that its predecessor would also get the update by the end of this year, but now it seems the Samsung Galaxy S2 along with the original Galaxy Note Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean update won’t be arriving just yet unfortunately.

Back in October there were reports that both of the handsets would be getting updated during the fourth quarter of 2012, and the software was even seen running on the Galaxy S2 in a video that further increased speculation the software’s release was imminent.

According to a report over on SamMobile it now seems the two handsets will have to wait to at least January before seeing any sign of the Jelly Bean update, and will obviously be sticking with Ice Cream Sandwich for now. There is a thought that the delay in releasing the new firmware may be down to the recent security flaw found in the Samsung Exynos processor.

This news comes after the Android 4.1.2 update was first released to unlocked versions of the Samsung Galaxy S3, and at the time of writing the software has yet to reach many regions around the world but seems to have reached parts of Asia.

It is being reported that Samsung may want to address the security issue before releasing the update, and could mean owners could get two firmware updates in a matter of days. The company may just release one stable version of the operating system in as many countries as possible in the coming weeks though.

Trouble is once this software does become available we then have to wait for the various individual carriers to push the update out to end users, which can take even longer with some carriers being worse for causing delays than others.

The Samsung Galaxy S2 has sold vast amounts of units since it was first released and can still be purchased from many outlets now, and along with the original Note the upgrading to Android Jelly Bean will give the handsets a nice new lease of life.

Even when Samsung does release Jelly Bean for the Galaxy S2 and Galaxy Note there is no saying how long it will take to reach users in the US, as the likes of Verizon customers have only recently received the software on the Galaxy S3.

Are you tired of waiting for Jelly Bean on your Galaxy S2 or Galaxy Note, or not overly bothered?

Very tired of waiting, so found the leaked rom, rooted and installed. Now un-rooted and authenticates with Sammy and network, and it’s AWESOME. Very smooth and silky, new features are great, and ‘Project butter’ has made it feel like a new phone again.
From the sharpness in the screen, the little touches of class improvement all over, the updated notifications are excellent.

  2. Tired of waiting, this is just becoming a real hassle to push out the updates and like the article said the US will take longer to receive the update. This really blows to read this article because I wanted to play with the Official Jelly Bean on my note over my holiday break, but now I might just flash my phone and call it a day.
