AT&T Samsung Galaxy S2 ICS update kills Jelly Bean Hope

If you are over in the good old US of A and you happen to own a Samsung Galaxy S2 on AT&T, you have been probably hoping that the next operating system update you would receive would be Android Jelly Bean. However if you were, unfortunately you’ll be disappointed because AT&T is now rolling out another ICS update for the Galaxy S2.

According to a report over on Gottabemobile, AT&T has announced that an update for their Samsung Galaxy S2 already running Android Ice Cream Sandwich is available and will be rolled out over the air and can of course be downloaded through Samsung Kies.

Apparently this latest Android update for the AT&T Samsung Galaxy S2 takes the OS up to Android Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0.4 as the device was previously running Android 4.0.3, although the AT&T website doesn’t list the update version or build.

This latest Android update comes roughly six months after the last OS update which was pushed out to the AT&T Galaxy S2 back in June this year and was the Android 4.0.3 update.

Apparently though this latest update for the device is according to AT&T quite minor and includes only improving the AT&T banded app launch process, brings an update to all Google branded apps, and comes with a EAS/Office 365 security pop-up fix, and that is your lot.

Although this latest update for the device looks to tackle some of the issues that AT&T Galaxy S2 owners may have been experiencing, it certainly isn’t anywhere near Android Jelly Bean, and apparently those SGS2 owners that are still running Gingerbread will not even be getting this latest update which is a bit of a downer to say the least.

Unfortunately though those Samsung Galaxy S2 owners on AT&T will for now at least have to put up with still running Android Ice Cream Sandwich as the carrier hasn’t announced any roll out time frame for when they just might actually see Jelly Bean hit their device.

Word is though that Samsung Galaxy S2 owners up in Canada on Rogers will see the Android Jelly Bean update arrive sometime in late January, and apparently Rogers and AT&T roll out their update typically roughly at the same time, so there is always a possibility that AT&T Galaxy S2 owners will see the update then.

Having said that, AT&T has been somewhat quite when it comes to the Android Jelly Bean update for the Galaxy S2, so perhaps this ISC roll out might possibly kiss any Jelly Bean hopes those owners may of hand, guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

  1. BOSS says:

At&t shouldnt be allowed to sell Android phones, they are aweful with updates and the combination just doesn’t mix. Until last year, At&t store personnel didn’t know anything about Android other than what At&t brainwashed them with….which is worthless to the above average smartphone user. Do yourself a favor and root your phone unless you want to be contnually disappointed with At&t’s nonsense
