10.1 Galaxy Tab 2 & 7.0 in US, incoming Jelly Bean 4.1.1 update

At Phones Review we do our best to keep readers informed about the latest operating system updates for their devices and at the moment Android Jelly Bean is gradually rolling out to smartphones and tablets in various regions. There’s good news today then if you’re in the US and are the owner of the Samsung 10.1 Galaxy Tab 2 or the 7.0 version as the Android Jelly Bean 4.1.1 update is now on its way to your tablet.

The 4.1.1 Jelly Bean update has been rolling out since December to the 10.1-inch Galaxy Tab 2 in selected regions and is now available via Kies to users in the US. We have now heard that owners of the 7-inch Galaxy Tab 2 in the US are also reporting that the update is now available for their tablet, either through Kies or as an over-the-air (OTA) update. Although we expected the update around this time it’s always reassuring to see that devices are actually receiving it at last.

It’s a big update at 300MB, as you might expect as it will bring all of the much-awaited goodness of Jelly Bean to your device, such as, Google Now, Project Butter and a host of other changes, additions and improvements. If you’re in the US then and the owner of a Galaxy Tab 2 then check for the update by heading to Settings followed by About Device and then Software Update to kick off the update. The benefits of this update are notable so don’t miss out on Android Jelly Bean 4.1.1.

We can only hope that this is a good sign for those with the Galaxy Tab 2 in other countries who haven’t yet received the Jelly Bean update and of course we’ll bring further news as we hear it. Are you in the US and have you been waiting for Jelly Bean for your Galaxy Tab 2, either the 10-inch or 7-inch version? Maybe you’re one of the fortunate users who have just received the update and could let us know so that we know how the rollout is progressing? Tell us by sending your comments.

    I got the update, and am not a fan of it. I liked the old interface more. Here are some issues:

    – Flash player is not supported and this is a big issue for surfing the internet (I know you can download and install it manually, and I did) . However, even after doing this Google Chrome is unable to play Flash videos;
    – Smart remote is not supported on Jelly Bean (This was a neat feature, it is now gone);
    – Screen capture is gone (you can take screen pictures by pressing the volume down button and the power button for a second, but no option to put the button back on the home page);
    – The notification bar is now a scroll down menu accessed at the top of the page. You scroll it down, then scroll it up when you are done;
    – Cannot access the notification bar by pressing the battery/time in lower left corner (now time is smaller and located in the top right corner).

    I do not like the new changes. People say it runs smoother. I do not notice a difference.

    Is there any way to go back to Ice Cream Sandwich without doing a factory reset? And is there a way to turn off the notification to update that you need to delay every 3 hours?

    Hopefully Samsung realizes the issues of Jelly Bean on the Samsung Tab 2 7 and fixes this ASAP.

    It is disappointing they released this update with so many bugs.

    Updated 2 days ago. Could care less about the screen capture button that people r pissed about. Im pissed that my paid Craigslist app doesnt work now. It searches and notifies but cant open listings. When you type a response like this one, you can’t see what you are typing. It doesnt scroll as you type. I have changed screen touch sounds to off but every time I type, I have sound feedback. Not sure if this is only with galaxy tab 2 7.0 or not. This sucks bad! If kinks arent worked out quickly, I’m breaking down and getting an iPad. Nice job of taking a perfectly good working tablet and turning it into a P.O.S! And lets not forget to mention, everything is reversed. Talking about confirmation buttons for deleting or saving. Location of notifications and they’re super small now. Also, along left and right sides of the screen a swipe up zooms in and a swipe down zooms out. What a pain in the gr-ass. The only good thing I’ve seen so far is the addition of a percentage to show how much battery you have left. Unfortunately, if you dont have 20/20 vision you wont be able to see it because it’s about 2 1/2 millimeters tall. Next time you release something, try it first! Get in touch with me. I could have told you that this would piss off the vast majority of galaxy tab 2 7.0 owners. I’m not happy with this, just incase I wasn’t blunt enough. Now that my tablet works like shat, a blunt sounds good !
