6.3-inch Galaxy Note 3 with Exynos 5 Octa at IFA not MWC

In 2012 the Mobile World Congress aka MWC was one of the best events of the year, but it has been said that this year it will be even bigger and better. The countdown begins for this amazing event that kicks off 25-28 February 2013, and one company settling in our minds is Samsung, this is when we all hope that they will be announcing its new 6.3-inch Galaxy Note 3, we believe otherwise. The question is will it be revealed at MWC or will it be at IFA (6th — 11th 2013) September? We have some thoughts on this.

Samsung has already announced its new Exynos 5 Octa chip this year at CES but no one knows what devices will house it, some say that it will be the new Samsung Galaxy Note 3 so we decided to dig a little deeper and this is when we came across Korea Times. We spotted on the sites 7th paragraph that the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 will come with a 6.3-inch display and will feature the new Exynos 5 Octa processor, which will apparently debut later this year.

Now seeing as the source above states later in the year we believe the Galaxy Note 3 will be announced at the IFA 2013 event between 6th and the 11th of September and not MWC in February.

First thoughts of the first smartphone to receive the new Octa 5 processor was the Galaxy S4, but it turns out it is gearing more towards the Note 3 instead. If Samsung do decide to release the Note 3 this year with a 6.3-inch display it will be bigger than recently announced Huawei 6.1-inch phablet aka Ascend Mate and a lot bigger than the current Galaxy Note 2 at 5.5-inches. Obviously Samsung have not confirmed any details on the new Note 3 or when or where it will be announced, all we know it is coming.

We have asked around 50 mobile phone users that do not own the Galaxy Note 2 what they think of the size, 70 percent of them said it was way too big to be a phone. We here at Phones Review love the Note 2 and it is a good all rounder smartphone aka phablet, it has the mixture of both phone and tablet that works very well indeed. To be frank though a 6.3-inch display is heading towards the “Just Too Big” to handle phone.

The Galaxy Note 3 coming with this new processor ties in to what we reported on the 18th of this month, what we would like to see next is news announcing that this phablet will come running Android Key Lime Pie.

What are your thoughts on the new Samsung Galaxy Note 3, if you have anything to say then please do share with us and be the first to comment below.

A 6.3″ screen would be 13.95cm × 7.85cm. That’s still manageable if the bezel is slim and the device is thin. But ANY bigger than that would be overkill.

I have just upgraded to a note 2 from the original note.
There is still room for a larger screen within the confines of the current body of the note 2 if they reduce the bezel size and blow the screen out to the edges more.
So as for the head to phone size look, there would from an outsiders view be no difference to the current note 2.

    1. the note 2 and the note are the same size at 5.5 inches. the note 3 is almost an entire inch bigger. remember the galaxy s2 and how huge it was when that came out? it’s tiny compared to the note 2. and it’s only 1 inch smaller at 4.5 inches. imagine that much of an increase again from note 2 to note 3. the note 2 is already almost crossing the line to too big. i think they nailed the size honestly and it’s a perfect mixture of utilitarian and practical. 6.5 inches is ridiculous. there is a noticeable difference.

I hold my Note II to my ear all the time and I certainly don’t look stupid. If you have a problem with that, it’s your problem not mine.

The problem in MHO is whether it a 6.3incher is rather too large to fit in most pockets. My Note II just barely fits in my pocket, it will be interesting to see how they can shoehorn that screen size into the current frame. If they can pull that off, then the 6.3 size will not be too large, if they can’t then we might just have a problem. If My phone can’t comfortably fit in my pocket then it’s a “no buy”

I really like the idea of the larger screen ,for guys with large hands the phone looks and feels comfortable and for the women the best of both worlds ,a tablet and a phone, who says you can’t have it all ,Samsung you’ve done it again. Adolphus

A tablet that i can carry all the time like a phone is a perfect idea…i know samsung knowws what customers want…wecome 6.3 inch…and with a pen..gr8…if dual sim it would be absolutely perfect for india where people keep two numbers normally because of blackbery….i use original note and keep a small phkne all the time since i want both the numbers always with me…note 3 waiting for you.

I know this is about the Galaxy note 3, but I just want to say that last night I saw ‘Les Miserables’ and I am amazed and so touched but the whole movie. I want you all to drop what you are doing right now and go see it. it’s that good.

I hope samsung goes with 6.3″ or even 8.5″ cuz if you like me, I like ’em big and thick, even better when its throbbing and full of juice.

        1. Toqeer Sethi says:

I’m sure Samsung will be able to house the 6.3 panel inside the current frame by reducing the size of the bezel. I’m not sure why they would want to increase the screen size though. 5.5 is big enough. Not sure what we would gain by an even bigger screen. Surely they should focus efforts on making the current panel better, hi res, better in sunlight etc.

  7. I have the Note 2 and when it came out there were all sorts of comments that it was too large…well, it is not too large and yes, there is room for an even larger screen. If it has better battery life and more megapixels…and the hottest processor out there..than I will buy it. Of course it make have expandable memory and built like the Maxx….meanwhile, where is Jelly Bean 4.1.2 update for the Note 2?

    1. Magnus100 says:

I doubt that the Note II will get 4.1.2, I think it’s more likely they’ll just bump it to KLP when it comes out. I hope Google comes out with KLP quickly and I hope it is a revolutionary advancement over Jellybean as ICS was over gingerbread

Samsung Galaxy Note 2 is definitely not too big I’d be happy with the 6.3 inch 1080 p display with the Samsung Exynos 5 4 gigabytes of RAM 64 gigabyte internal storage and an aluminum chassis instead of this is cheap plastic s*** I don’t care to pay 1000 dollars for a device I just want it
    to be the best

    1. Magnus100 says:

I’d pay 1k if it had

      1. 1080P screen with perfect sunlight legibility

      2. 24 hours of battery life with screen on at full brightness the entire time (removable battery)

      3. Much slimmer and lighter with premium look and feel

      4. Much better camera optics

      5. 128GB of internal storage (dont’ care for sd card with storage this large)

      6. Exynos Octa

      7. Overhaul of touchwize with abolition of all the freaking cartoonish icons.

      8. Optimization of the software so that everything is instant

What’s your game? You’re commenting on everyone’s comment, and saying they are wrong, and the’ll look stupid talking into a big phone. You must be a kiddie. For 50 years people put a big handset next to their head to talk, when using a landline phone. It was that big because it was comfortable, not due to any limit in technology. If you go to Asia, you’ll see women holding a tablet to their head to talk. Sure, Id be happy for a Smart phone the size of a watch or credit card, but seeing technology currently does project a large screen into space like a flat-screen light sabre, I want the Note 3 to be larger than the Note 2 so the screen will be so much more useful and beautiful. And no, it won’t look stupid at all. Huh? If you don’t want it, fine. That’s not wrong, but you’re wrong to say others are.

Good point. This Angel’s shoe shine may be having a dictatorial spirit, meaning if it is not to his/her liking it is wrong/stupid/bad. FYI, since you are not paying for my phone of choice, you, angel’s shoe shine, have no say in what I choose. You choose what you like and do not decide for me what is an acceptable choice in phones.

      2. Note Lover says:

Thank you Aus_Roh, obviously this person (Angel’s Shoe Shine) isn’t the most intelligent, which is why we should just ignore it, that’s what I do. Can’t wait for the Note 3!

  9. Aus_Roh says:

I just want 64 Gb minimum, pref 128 Gb, and a memory slot or two. If it doesn’t have 64 Gb minimum, I won’t be able to buy it. Many others want this too. What’s wrong with having all one’s music etc with you in high quality? Get with it Samsung! You have the new chips. I’m worried when I read reports that the S4 and Note 2 will keep the current line up of memory i.e. 16 Gb, 32 Gb. Oh, and of course I want an excellent audio system, not a throw backback to the S2 or Note1.

  10. Андрей Калинин says:

I hope that with all that space they’re gonna put a good battery in it as well, maybe a 5000mah battery.

  11. Dominic Goodspeed says:

LETS MAKE THIS CLEAR. Phones above 4.5 inches are designed to be used with Bluetooth headsets. People unaware of this should not be purchasing phones above 4.5 to give it a bad review. The sheer functions like talking on the phone and web surfing make it OBVIOUS these phones are to be used with bluetooths.

  12. JB says:

I upgraded last year from the Blackberry Storm 2 (3.7″ screen) to the Galaxy S3 (4.8″ screen) and after 6 months the S3 is just too small! 6.3 is BIG but I will get used to it like I did the S3 🙂 Remember the days when the Palm Treo 700 W was big and had a stylus for the tough screen (2.3″ screen)…Amazing what 10 years brings…

    1. Note Lover says:

Exactly! I don’t care what people say anyhow. I proudly sport my Galaxy Note 2 and will proudly sport my Galaxy Note 3. GO SAMSUNG!!!!!

  13. Drake says:

Thanks for your Samsung phablet article. I wish Samsung would add a detachable ear piece phone on their phablets. One that is ready to use upon detachment and is placed within the contour shape of the phablet body.

  14. Jin says:

Witch 50 morons did you ask ? Where they even average consumers or where they iPhone fanboys ? The sales have proven that the note 2 size is not a issue the bigger display is better 6.3 inch will be a perfect smartphone bring it on I say 😉

  15. SandySD says:

I don’t even hold my mall phone when I talk to friends, I use a bluetooth or talk Sync in my car. I would rather not talk on the phone at all unless I have a bluetooth…..BUT, I do play games on my phone and I think it would be great to have a bigger screen.
