BlackBerry Z10 will not be carried by Sprint, only Q10

#

The BlackBerry Z10 was released in a blaze of glory at the end of January in the UK and was followed in Canada although the US has still to see the launch. It’s scheduled for a US release in March though and only a few days ago we discussed how stateside customers of the BlackBerry Z10 had not been forgotten. However if you were hoping for the Z10 to be carried by Sprint then we have some rather disappointing news as apparently Sprint has confirmed it will not carry this new smartphone and will only carry the Q10.

The BlackBerry Z10 (full touchscreen) and the Blackberry Q10 (QWERTY handset) are the first two devices that will launch running the overhauled operating system and when the Z10 was officially announced we initially thought it would be coming to all of the major US carriers, Sprint, T-Mobile, Verizon and AT&T. However we have slowly heard confirmation from the other 3 major carriers but not Sprint.

We then recently heard that BlackBerry had posted a tweet to reassure US customers that the BlackBerry Z10 was coming in a few weeks and that landing pages for the BlackBerry Z10 had been set up for AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile, so while it’s not exactly surprising that Sprint will not carry the BlackBerry Z10 there may well be a few potential Sprint customers of the phone who will feel that they are missing out.

Now we hear of the official news that Sprint will definitely not carry the BlackBerry Z10 and it comes from BlackBerry spokesman Mark Elliott who spoke to Bloomberg about the situation. Elliott did confirm though that Sprint would carry the BlackBerry Q10, the BB10 phone with a more traditional QWERTY physical keyboard.

AT&T and Verizon have also confirmed they will be offering the Q10 as well as the Z10 but the Q10 isn’t due out in the US until May at the earliest. It looks like the first BB10 device will be available very soon then to most in the US except those who are Sprint customers and there is likely to be quite a bit of a further wait until the Q10 becomes available on Sprint, news that we think could well disappoint a lot of Sprint customers.

Are you a Sprint customer who was hoping to purchase the BlackBerry Z10? If so, might you opt for the Q10 on Sprint instead or will you consider jumping ship to another carrier to get hold of the Z10? We’d like to hear your comments about this.

Wow. I’m a iPhone user and I’m planning to jump
To a blackberry z10. Was in Canada last week and
My friend has one. It’s. an amazing phone. I’m shocked
That sprint is not carrying this phone. My contract with sprint
Is up in 1 week, I was going to buy this phone and now, looks like I’m going
To have to switch to Verizon or AT&T. Can someone tell me which if these 2 carriers is better? I agree with the previous comment that sprint will lose lots of
Customers. Sprint, what are you doing? Maybe you
Are too loyal to iPhone? The new blackberry is definitely going to
Gain market share. I hope sprint loses a lot of customers because
    Of this very poor decision!

Plain and simple! Verizon is the heavy hitter. They have much better coverage and rarely any drop calls. Much better then AT&T. Good Luck!

Do a web search on mobile services. You’ll find that while AT&T seems to be better in the global arena, Verizon is better in the US.

bonehead move by Sprint. i am sure they will lose customers. this phone is going to be a market leader and they will lose a lot of money because of this.
Can’t wait to get my BB Z10… Please launch soon in the states!!!!!!!!!!

It is unfortunate that Sprint is locked into a business agreement. I have looked at the reviews for the carriers and both ATT and Verizon have better coverage in the US and better 4LTE coverage. I have enjoyed the unlimited data, but I also was hit with a $20 monthly fee last year to have business access for my email. I was not warned about this. I just lost my email after having it for a number of years and it took two days between corporate and Sprint to figure it out. I am also tired of squinting at my small screen on the Bold 9650 and want the larger screen. Lastly, Sprint has fewer towers where I live and work. So, it is time to move on to another carrier so I can get the Z10. Customer service has been good over the years and I regret having to give that up. I am glad we do have choices.

I’M LEAVING THE DAY THAT I SEE THAT VERIZON HAS IT FOR SALE, AND I’M TAKING MY 4 ACCOUNTS WITH ME, I HAVE PUT UP WITH SPRINT FOR THE PAST 6 YEARS, THEY ALWAYS GET THE GREAT PHONES 2 YEARS AFTER EVERYONE ELSE, PHUCK THEM, ENOUGH IS A ENOUGH, I’M A QWERTY BB 9930 USER BUT I’M NOW GOING TO GO BBZ10, WILL BE A MOVE FOR THE BETTER, SPRINT DOESN’T GIVE 2 SHYTS ABOUT US SO IMMA GIVE A PHUCK ABOUT THEM, 1 WEEK LEFT

  6. If I was a Sprint customer and wanted a Z10 this would be unacceptable, especially when every other major carrier will carry the Z10. If I were BB this would be unacceptable….I’d tell Sprint you either carry both phones like everyone else or no Q10.

Furthermore, 1/3 to 1/2 of current Z10 sales are coming from former iphone and S3 users….and they are giving better reviews to the new phone over the old device. It makes NO SENSE for Sprint to not carry a phone that is better than what they are currently providing and LOSE business.

I think BB should play hard ball with Sprint and say no Q10. Sure the lack of sales will hurt, but they are going to see more sales with the Z10 anyways. I think Sprint would eventually relent if BB demanded they carry the Z10….Sprint could potentially lose hundreds of thousands of customers who are seeking the new BB10 os.

i was contemplating jumping on board to either the shitty iphone or android phone fads because my BB style is falling apart (def. not the best model BB made). but i was holding out for the Z10. if sprint won’t carry it, i will be switching to another carrier. i have been impatiently waiting for this BB, and i won’t let sprint hold me back. sorry, sprint. your service sucks anyway since you knocked down a tower near my home.

  8. time to move on says:

I have been a sprint customer for over 6 years, I have 8 phones with them, I was hoping sprint would get the bb z10 but now that they say they wont be getting it I will be switching all my phones to verizon

  9. blackmademan says:

sprint i just would like to say on behalf of sprint customers you do it to yourself…. why do you never set up deals to get the better phones…. the clock is ticking

  10. USAalltheway says:

….I will be leaving Sprint I guess….its too bad, I don’t mind them…but I have been deciding between the Iphone and BB10 and I think BB10 has my vote. Sorry Sprint

  11. Alex says:

I will definitely switch to Verizon. I have been with Sprint for 13 yrs and I am willing to paid the ETF to get out of my contract. My wife’s contract expired 2 yrs ago so her next phone will be with Verizon. Bad move Sprint.

  12. oreillym says:

Sprint. Bang, Bang, your now dead…I think your CEO needs to be fired!
So, such a bad move… You are surely gonna regret this decision.. unless you reverse it quickly. Z10 phone is gonna be the best phone on the market. You LOSE! AGAIN!!!

  13. jah says:

i’v been waiting for the z10 for 4 years now……my contract for sprint was up 2 years ago and now theyre telling me they not getting the z10? thats a slap in my face im extremely disappointed. ive been with Sprint for over 13 years because i dont like change but this is deff. a time for change. im jumping ships, dont know who’s better out of verizon or att but im taking all 4 of my phones to them

  14. ittsmith says:

    as a customer, i’m annoyed!
    as an investor, i’m annoyed!
as an IT guy that uses Sprint for our business account for tons of bbry users, i’m shocked!

I would love to see the market research they did on this?
Can i get an unlocked z10 and still use Sprint? For crying out loud they have the bandwidth, what do they care?

They aren’t going to continue to sell a TON of iphone5’s now that the tide has turned on the iPhone….take your losses and provide what your customers WANT.
Did you even do any market research on this?

Now i’m really really torn…i’m probably going to NOT upgrade my wimax phone and ride that out until i can see the q10 and maybe go with that, but with the z10 i would have resigned this month. But honestly, i don’t like qwerty physical when swype is so awesome.

    I am really shocked.

I personally called several dealers in Canada to check on sales of Blackberry 10 and Z10 and all stores reported excellent sales.
