Sony Xperia ZR release set to join the waterproof family

#

Sony now has its popular Xperia Z flagship smartphone out of the door which is being well received by owners and reviewers alike, but the company looks to be busy offering more hardware to consumers as the Sony Xperia ZR smartphone is set to join the family.

The company has recently released both the Xperia Z and Xperia ZL but Sony is looking to make a bigger impact in the smartphone market this year, and this will be done by offering a variety of hardware at different price levels. Now another new handset is being tipped for release that is going under the name of the Xperia ZR.

It is thought to be the same handset that has the codename of Dogo that we last heard about last month, and is believed to feature a 4.6-inch HD touchscreen display with a resolution of 720 x 1280. This will have a quad core Qualcomm S4 Pro processor under the hood that may be the 600 series and clocked at 1.5GHz.

There will also be 2GB of RAM with 8GB of internal storage that can be expanded thanks to microSD card compatibility, and the handset will feature a 13-megapixel rear facing shooter with an Exmor RS camera sensor. Just like the Xperia Z the smartphone will also be water resistant but with a slightly higher IP rating with the device looking more like the Xperia ZL.

It will be packing a 2,300 mAh battery unit in a form factor that will measure just over 10mm while weighing about 140grams. The handset will obviously be cheaper than the Xperia Z and should appeal to those that can’t quite afford the flagship device but still fancy a waterproof handset.
