iPad 5 and iPad Mini 2 to lead Apple progress

#

The Apple iPad 5 and iPad mini 2 are both expected to release this year and will no doubt continue the company’s dominance in the tablet market. Many of us though will always associate Apple even more with the iPhone so you may be surprised to hear that future Apple progress is now forecast to be led by iPads rather than any other Apple device.

Earlier this year the iPad 5 was expected to release as early as March and more recently a summer timeframe has been mentioned. As far as the iPad mini 2 is concerned, a Q3 release has been rumored recently and this fits with Apple CEO Tim Cook’s recent statement that seemed to dispel any more products for at least the first half of this year, saying instead that more hardware and software would arrive later in the year. Now a new report discussing Apple’s next wave of growth puts the iPad very much as the driving force behind future progress for the company.

Slate tech commentator Farhad Manjoo recently discussed the saturated market for high-end smartphones while the market for low-end devices is growing. At the moment the iPhone is losing market share because of this. However recent figures show that iPad sales grew by 65% in Q1 this year compared to the same quarter last year. While the iPad sold 19 million units, far less than the iPhone’s sales of 37 million units, the growth rate of the iPhone was only 7% by comparison.

According to Manjoo this means that the iPad could overtake the iPhone as the best-selling Apple device by 2015 if the same pattern continues, something we would never have contemplated a few short years ago. Manjoo asserts that if this happens the whole way that people view Apple will be transformed, from the company that sells the iPhone to the tablet company that also sells some phones and Macs.

This is certainly an intriguing thought and it will be interesting to see if the iPad 5 and iPad mini 2 continue this successful trend for Apple’s iPad. In the meantime we shall continue to follow developments for the next iPads and pass on that news as we hear it. While we wait we’d really like to know if you are surprised by this news.

Do you imagine that Apple will really become more associated with being a tablet manufacturer rather than for the iPhone? Is there anything Apple can do to rejuvenate growth in the market for the iPhone? Let us know with your comments.

” and will no doubt continue the company’s dominance in the tablet market. “…….maybe you should do a bit of research before you write articles…..Apple’s ipad market share dropped 15% in the last quarter from 63% to 48% whilst everyone else’s market share increased. Also whilst Apples ipad sales increased 65%, the tablet market actually increased 117% yoy, so Apples market share loss was actually a lot higher than 15%, so that hardly denotes dominance does it?.

To revitalize iPhone much more customizable ios as well a 4″ current size (or just slightly larger say 4.3) and around 5″ and 6″ sizes of standard 1080p or very shortly 4k resolution. Shorter update cycles of no more than 9mo do this and they would absolutely dominate again

And (see my other comment) I am not at all an apple fan. I Hate osx and ios with passion that is in no small part due to lack of customization. I want to tell my device how to work not have apple do it for me. I am anxiously awaiting 2nd gen mini though as I’m sure I will buy it even without ios config changes and I would almost definitely change to a 5 or larger inch iphone from note 2 or the then 3 if there was more customizable interface and preferably a digitizer and pen pen for the tablet would also be the wave of future

In order for Apple to dominate in the phone market again, they need to bring a lot more to the table this time. A bigger screen, maybe around 4.5″ or 4.6″, with at least a 1920×1080 resolution to boot, around a 12 or 13 megapixel camera, new iOS design/look, and newer features that will be FAR ahead of any other company on the market. We all know that if they make an iPhone 5s that will only be a slight upgrade from the iPhone 5 but they might want to consider this because they don’t have that many more chances to take before they loose complete market share.

iphone needs innovations, its what people want, the trend etablished by apple with the releases of their earlier phones, and then overtaken by samsung, htc, sony and other androinds… apples marketing backfired at them, people want more “new stuff, and power” even though they dont use a meer half of it… so thats what apple should go back to in order to regain popularity on the mobile phone market.. hopefully the first steps will be taken with the release of iOS7! however its unlikely iphone 5s will bring innovations, since prototypes of the next gen. devices are developed 7-18 month before the release….:/

Being that apple refuses to allow flash and other types to run lets the android run amuck there are so many small and simple tweaks I can’t begin to list them however all they have to do is look at cydia to see their failings.. Enough said

Apple losing iPhone MKT share because of arrogant and fail to see the demand of true larger screen size. Although those 5″ or above is rediculous huge for the phone, but I believe Apple could design and produce a 4.8″ screen phone that remain elegant. Apple lost MKT share is not because of software issue nor hardware issue but rather simply screen size isn’t big enough. This tiny mis-step lead to self destruct. Wake up Apple.
