Samsung Galaxy S2 on AT&T, Jelly Bean 4.1.2 update via Kies
Back in April we informed owners of the Samsung Galaxy S2 Skyrocket on AT&T about the Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean update becoming available. Now we’re glad to say the update is also being offered to those who have the original Galaxy S2 (also known as the Samsung Attain) on the carrier.
Samsung and AT&T are now pushing out the Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean update for the Galaxy S2 via Samsung Kies. When we say now, we mean now, as the update is already available according to owners of the AT&T Galaxy S2 over on XDA Developers.
At present it only seems to be available through the Samsung Kies software but it may also roll out as an OTA (over-the-air) update, although we haven’t heard confirmation of that yet. As past updates for the Galaxy S2 have come via Kies though, an OTA option may be unlikely. Of course it would be good to hear from any readers who receive notification of an OTA update being available.
This update is long overdue for the Galaxy S2 on AT&T (SGH-I777) and at last the device will get a taste of Jelly Bean and finally an upgrade from Android 4.0 ICS. New features that owners will notice with the 4.1.2 update are Project Butter, Google Now, improved multitasking, enhanced apps and much more, and this upgrade is well worth having.

Since the update forced over the air on Saturday I’ve had trouble with my Galaxy S2, and thats when it stays on! All my apps were thrown out of the filing system Id made to keep my screens uncluttered, not a huge problem as it didnt take long to fix that; but the battery now only lasts for 3.5 hours (compared yo a goid 18 prior to update) as the link with Google seems to have caused a permanent synch state which drains the power. The Google Now service looks great but is pointless if it causes such battery destruction.

I love the new update, much smoother, like the new features and my Galaxy S2 doesn’t overheat and randomly shut off like it did after updating to ICS. Only complaint, having to upgrade through Kies, which I hate–it never seems to go smoothly, usually takes 2 or 3 attempts to update.
Simply in love with the new update. Project butter is awesome, made my phone a lot smoother and faster. New motions included as well such as direct call and tap to mute. As far as the battery is concerned, it has improved significantly after one full charge. However, power saving mode results in timely lags which can get irritating at times. Conclusively, I can assure those of you who are using stock AT&T ICS Rom that this update is way better and you wouldn’t regret it.
