HTC Butterfly S vs Samsung Galaxy S4 in specs shootout

#

There are some really impressive smartphones around at the moment and the just-released Samsung Galaxy S4 is available across various world regions and carriers. The HTC Butterfly S was just officially introduced and will release in some markets in Asia in July with other world regions to follow. Today we want to compare the HTC Butterfly S vs. Samsung Galaxy S4 in a specs shootout.

We’ll take a look at the key specs of each device to give you an idea of how they contrast and we also have a brief video that gives a comparison of the two devices. We’ll begin with a rundown of the specs of these two smartphones, that both run the Android Jelly Bean operating system.

Processor
The HTC Butterfly S is powered by a 1.9GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 quad-core processor, while the Samsung Galaxy S4 has either a 1.6GHz Exynos 5 octa-processor or a 1.9GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 quad-core processor (dependent on region).

Display
There’s a 5-inch Super LCD3 display for the HTC Butterfly S, and this has a resolution of 1920 x 1080 and 441 ppi. On the other hand the Samsung Galaxy S4 has a 5-inch Super AMOLED display with resolution of 1920 x 1080 and 441 ppi.

RAM and Storage
The Butterfly S has 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage (this is expandable via microSD to 64GB). The Galaxy S4 has 2GB of RAM and 16, 32 or 64GB of internal storage (expandable to 64GB via microSD).

Camera Set-Up
The HTC Butterfly S has a 4-megapixel UltraPixel camera with autofocus and LED flash, simultaneous HD video and image recording, geo-tagging, face and smile detection, HDR and 1080p video capture. There’s also a 2.1-megapixel front-facing camera. Meanwhile the Samsung Galaxy S4 has a 13-megapixel rear camera with autofocus and LED flash, Dual Shot, simultaneous HD video and image recording, geo-tagging, touch focus, face and smile detection, image stabilization, HDR and 1080p video capture. It also totes a 2-megapixel front-facing camera.

Battery
The Butterfly S has a 3200 mAh battery, and the Galaxy S4 has a 2600 mAh battery.

Operating System
The Butterfly S runs Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean skinned with HTC Sense 5.0, while the Galaxy S4 runs Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean skinned with the TouchWiz user interface.

As you can see, many of the specs for each handset are in fact very similar with nothing between the Butterfly S or Galaxy S4 on screen resolution and ppi, or processing power. Both phones also have the same RAM and both have expandable internal storage although the Galaxy S4 does come with more storage options. They also run the latest Android Jelly Bean OS although you may prefer the HTC Sense UI over Samsung’s TouchwWiz UI or vice versa.

As far as cameras are concerned, we should point out not to be too concerned by the apparently low megapixel sensor for the HTC One. This is because it is an UltraPixel camera, capturing 300% more light than most other camera sensors of smartphones, meaning it is particularly good in low-light conditions. Both phones also have an abundance of various features, and this may also influence any decision between the two, along with the design and build quality.

Below this story you can see a short video comparison of the two phones, which succinctly wraps up the pros of each one over the other. For example the Galaxy S4 is lighter and thinner than the Butterfly S and has a removable battery, superior contrast, wireless charging and much more. The Butterfly S though is noted as having a premium design, larger battery, brighter display, superior speakers and more. Check out the video to see the full details of the benefits of each. We’ve also embedded another video that gives a brief overview of the HTC Butterfly S.

We’d really like to hear your views on the HTC Butterfly S vs. Samsung Galaxy S4. Are you thinking of purchasing a new smartphone, and if so, is it more likely to be the Butterfly S or Galaxy S4? What is the main factor in your decision? Send your comments to let us know.

I feel sad that I live in the US. Especially since i’m on ATT if any phone company has a chance to get it, that would be Verizon. But it’s not worth waiting one year so Verizon can put a couple gigs of bloatware. I mean I would probably take the S over the One if I could just because it has a much better battery life. With my One X I know first hand how annoying it is to have a medium battery. I wish phone companies would understand that something like a bigger battery is more important to me than Air gestures in Samsungs case and an ultrapixel camera in HTCs case. But I guess I’ll just wait next year and if HTC can a make a better phone that will come to the U.S. I should be happy though because it does seem like HTC favors Att. Because they only gave them the 64 gig version of the phone. And only they got the actual flagship they made last year being the One X. While other companies got variants of that phone like the One S or the One V.

Its amazing how screwed we get here in the US re getting phones. What’s more amazing is that htc is supposedly struggling with sales yet they refuse to release a phone like the butterfly s here! WTF! Also WTF is a phone like that doing w/o LTE capabilities? Unreal. HTC get your sh*that’s together please.
