Day One app update for iPhone offers changes

#

We always like to keep readers informed about popular apps and one that’s attracting a lot of interest right now is Day One, an iOS app for iPhone and iPad. This was recently offered free as part of the App Store anniversary celebrations, although that offer may finish any time now. It’s a great app though, and now the Day One app has just received a notable update.

The Day One (Journal / Diary) app from Bloom Built is extremely popular at the moment, and users will no doubt be pleased to hear about the update that arrived yesterday. If you haven’t yet heard of Day One it offers a new way to journal, and the information you input can be synced to your iPhone and iPad using iCloud or Dropbox. You can enter all of your memories, ideas, events and photos as a record of your personal history.

The update brings Day One to version 1.11 and there are several significant changes. For example locations can now be opened directly in Google or Apple Maps, and there’s a ‘Last Photo Taken’ feature that enables you to quickly add the last photo you took to a journal entry.

Another improvement with the update is inter-app ‘Open In…’ capabilities. This means that you can add or import .md and .txt files from other apps to Day One, and you can also attach image files via ‘Open In…’ directly to Day One entries. There’s also a fix for an issue that resulted in reminders getting removed.

One more change involves iOS support. Whereas previously Day One was compatible with iPhone, iPod touch and iPad running iOS 5.1 or later, that has now been dropped and iOS devices will need to be running iOS 6 or later.

As we mentioned at the top of this article, Day One was available for a few days last week free of charge as part of the App Store anniversary event. As we write the app is still listed as free, but there is no indiccation of when the promotion might end, so it may return to the usual price of $4.99/ £2.99. If you want to see more or download Day One, then head to iTunes here.

We’re interested to hear what readers think about the popular Day One app. Are you just about to try out this app from the App Store? Maybe you already use this app and can tell us what you think about the changes with the update? Let us know with your comments.
