Sony Xperia Z Ultra vs Asus Fonepad Note FHD 6

#

There was a time that consumers who were looking to pick up a phablet sized smartphone were a little limited to what was on offer, but this year there are going to be a number of different devices becoming available. Today we are looking at the Sony Xperia Z Ultra vs. Asus Fonepad Note FHD 6.

We have heard a lot about the Sony Xperia Z Ultra recently but there is also the Asus Fonepad Note FHD 6 that was announced previously, which is similar to the Asus Fonepad but uses a smaller 6-inch display and comes with a stylus. The Sony meanwhile has the dust and waterproofing that originally came with the Xperia Z.

Display
The Sony uses a 6.44-inch Full HD Capacitive touchscreen display with a 344ppi pixel density, which compares to the Asus Fonepad that has a 6-inch Full HD Super IPS+ LCD capacitive touchscreen display with a 367ppi.

Processor and RAM
Under the hood of the Sony is the quad core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor clocked at 2.2GHz with an Adreno 330 GPU for the graphics, which is paired with 2GB of RAM. The Asus meanwhile uses a dual core Intel Atom Z2560 processor clocked at 1.6GHz with a PowerVR SGX544MP2 GPU and 2GB of RAM.

The Asus comes in either 8GB or 16GB flavours with the option of using a microSD card up to 64GB, while the Xperia Z Ultra has 16GB of internal memory that also has support for up to 64GB microSD cards.

Cameras
Sony has provided the Ultra with an 8-megapixel camera on the back paired with a 2-megapixel front facer with both units capable of 1080p video capture, which compares to the Asus that also has an 8-megapixel rear facer but only a 1.2-megapixel unit around the front, and the Asus is only capable of 720p video recording.

Operating system
Both devices are down to be shipped once available with the Android 4.2 Jelly Bean operating system, but with the long rumoured 4.3 version of the OS we could see the two devices come with that instead.

Availability
The Asus Fonepad Note FHD 6 is expected to arrive during the third quarter of 2013 which we are in now, while the Sony Xperia Z Ultra is expected to arrive in September.

Will you be getting one of these devices once they are released?
