New Nexus 7 stars in video as retailers get stock

#

The Nexus 7 has proven to be a really successful device for Asus and Google but it is now celebrating its first birthday so is obviously due a refresh. Now there is a chance that the new Nexus 7 could now be released next week as it stars in a video as retailers are reportedly preparing to receive stock.

Google has now announced a press event for next week just as the alleged pricing for the new version of the Nexus 7 appeared online. We now have a video that is supposedly of the Nexus 7 2 or at least a prototype that can be seen below this article.

The device in the video courtesy of Android Central has a label that identifies it as the Asus ME571K_PR1_SKU2, which is expected to come in either 16GB or 32GB flavours, and you would have thought that Google would provide Wi-Fi only version with the option of 3G as well just like the current model.

Besides the 7-inch display the device has a 5-megapixel camera by Chicony on the rear, while around the front is a 1.2-megapixel unit from LITEONMOBILE, and the rear camera is positioned in the same area as the 3.5mm headphone port.

It seems that the device in the video is sporting a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro processor which will disappoint many Android fans that were hoping for the quad core Snapdragon 600, but remember this could be an early prototype and not the final device that will make it to the store shelves.

The device is also listed to have 4GB of RAM which is highly unlikely and will more likely come with 2GB of RAM. Meanwhile the guys over at Engadget got hold of an internal memo from retailer OfficeMax that states that they are expecting stock of the new Nexus 7 to arrive as soon as July 20th.

Obviously there is no way the device will go on sale before it has been announced at the Google event next week. There is also pricing that fits in with the leak yesterday so the device should be available for sale almost immediately after it has been announced.

It remains to be seen if both versions of the Nexus 7 will remain on sale as we have already seen some retailers begin to cut the price of the device.

Will you be disappointed if the new Nexus 7 has the Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro under the hood?
