Nexus 7 2 specs appear, like a larger Nexus 4

#

Later today Google is holding its Android breakfast event with Sundar Pichai where we can expect to see a whole host of new goodies revealed by the search engine giant, and now before it is officially launched the new Nexus 7 2 gets fully detailed and may disappoint some Android fans but it is basically an enlarged Nexus 4.

We have been seeing numerous leaks about the device over the last few days that have included pricing and specs, and also some screen shots of the device running Android 4.3 that is also expected to be announced later today.

Now the Android Police has been able to get an early look at the device that has included some benchmark results, and as expected the device features a Full HD 7-inch display with a pixel density of 320ppi. Under the hood is the Qualcomm quad core Snapdragon S4 Pro clocked at 1.5GHz that is also found inside the Nexus 4.

There have been numerous rumours surrounding the processor for the second generation Nexus 7, and many Android fans have commented that they were hoping it would come with the later Snapdragon 600, so these fans look to be disappointed with this news.

The new Nexus 7 only has 2GB of RAM despite early claims that emerged previously and the slate has the codename of Razor compared to the Nakasi that was last year’s model. As expected the device is running Android 4.3 Jelly Bean with a build number of JWR66N, and the benchmark results for the device fall in where you would expect them to.

Hardware using the Snapdragon S4 Pro and 600 normally return AnTuTu results between 16,000 and 22,000, with the Nexus 4 hitting 18,000 and the HTC One returning 22,000 but the new Nexus comes in at round 19,000 — 20,000 so slightly better than the Nexus 4.

When running Quadrant the Nexus 7 2 returned around 5,500 which compares to the HTC One at 11,000 and the Nexus 4 on around 4,200, so it seems like the new Nexus 7 is like a larger Nexus 4. The graphics benchmark tests using 3DMark returned a score of 7,188 at a frame rate per second of almost 30, and compares to the Nexus 4 that scores 6,300.

This compares to the old model that could only return a score of 1,877 using the 3DMark Ice Storm Extreme test. We will have to wait until later today to find everything out about the new Nexus 7 and the device is expected to be available shortly after its announcement.

Will you still be getting the new Nexus 7?
